Chinese Astrology Explained

Are you confused about the meanings of Chinese astrology?? Would you like to know more about this 5000 year old art?

Chinese astrology is based on the lunar calendar.? As with astrology from other cultures, a horoscope is created using the position of the stars and planets for each of the twelve signs of the zodiac based on the year of birth.

The Twelve Chinese Signs

Rat

Rats are charming and attractive to the opposite sex.? But despite outside appearances, they are restless and this sometimes comes across as aggressiveness.? Rats are great with money, and love to pounce on an opportunity.? They are also very generous to their friends.? They love people and large gatherings and always have others around.? They also run in many intimate circles and like to be involved in everything they can, leading them to sometimes attempt to do too much.? They are good writers and speakers, and success comes easily to them.

Ox

Oxen are calm on the surface, but have hidden tempers.? They are hard workers and are determined to the point of stubbornness.? However, this makes them one of the most dependable signs.? They are trustworthy, and easily move up at the office.? If they don't watch out, they may not have much of a social life.? They are not very adept at mind games, and can sometimes be led astray in romance.? But once they find someone, they are steadfast and loyal.

Tiger

Tigers are energetic and unpredictable.? Their wild side leads them to be the center of attention.? They speak their mind and are always looking for the new party or next great idea.? They are also very involved in giving their time and money to the causes they are passionate about.? They are generous and honest.? However, they are also rebels.? They seek ideals and will rebel against a society they perceive as being in the wrong.? They are emotional and impulsive, prone to romance as well as jealousy.

Rabbit

Rabbits are gracious and gentle.? They adore quiet and peacefulness, and prefer a good book to a night on the town.? Their sensitivity can lead to moodiness, but normally rabbits are great at keeping the peace.? While they are quiet on the surface, rabbits are good at finding deals.? They are sweet and can talk people into being on their side of an issue without argument.? While they are cautious, they can also be friendly and inviting once they feel safe.

Dragon

Dragons have fire.? They are full of life, and want to live life to the fullest.? They are perfectionists and are extremely demanding of both themselves and others.? They intimidate those who disagree with them, although they are very loyal to their friends.? They can be stubborn, but they will let you know how they feel.? They believe themselves to be B and loveable, and they strive to motivate everyone to live up to their standards.

Snake

Snakes are mysterious, often charming the opposite sex.? They are graceful, and tend towards all things grand and cultural.? They are private tend to look inward for their self-esteem, and are superstitious about everything.? They are not penny-pinchers, but always have money on hand.? Snakes are jealous when they find a lover, and will turn cold almost on a whim.

Horse

Horses are generally friendly.? They love being the center of attention, and will keep others enthralled by their quick wit.? However, they have malleable alliances, and will have many short-lived romances and friendships.? They enjoy the change, and lead lives full of adventure.? They don't like being tied down, and love working out and spending time outdoors.? They don't like sticking to a plan, and will often take on too much.? They can be impatient with others whom they perceive as moving too slowly.

Sheep

Sheep are peaceful people.? They empathize with others' pain, and are easy to talk to.? They don't like to rush, and will break if pressured.? They do not like harsh words, and love to be led gently.? While they are passive, they are also patient, and generally they eventually get their way.? They always remember their friends and families and give thoughtful gifts.? They often worry about what others think, and tend too spend too much.

Monkey

Monkeys are intuitive and clever.? They are hands-on problem solvers, and a great deal of self-confidence.? They enjoy succeeding at difficult tasks, and don't need to be talked into attempting one.? The source of their success is their great memory.? They are hard workers, and don't care what others think of them.? They don't usually have many friends, although their success does attract people to them.

Rooster

Roosters are romantics.? They are perfectionists and dreamers at the same time.? Quick to see detail, they always love a challenge, especially if at first glance it looks impossible.? They take great pride in knowing all the details of a subject that interests them, and are thus great debaters.? However, they will never admit to being wrong.? They also tend to step in and try to solve others' problems, whether or not they have been invited to do so.? They like to always stay busy, and will work for whatever they have their eye on.

Dog

Dogs are friendly and are always up front about their feelings.? They are very family-oriented and are extremely loyal to their friends.? They will fight for a cause they feel is just.? They are not comfortable around extravagant wealth, and prefer a loving home regardless of social status.? Once you befriend a dog, they will be by your side for life.? They are monogamous, and tend to choose their lovers wisely.? They work hard and play hard, and know when it is appropriate to be doing one or the other.? They are good providers to those they love.

Pig

Pigs love a social life.? They have many friends, and tend to stay out of heated discussions and all kinds of debates.? It's not that they don't have an opinion; they simply love to party and don't want to risk ruining the fun.? They are good listeners, but are sometimes gullible and can be taken advantage of easily.? This can sometimes hurt them in relationships.? They are trustworthy and dependable, and stick by their friends.?? They are generous to those they care about.

The Five Elements

There is another layer to Chinese astrology that is less well known than the Chinese signs.? Chinese astrologers use a 60 year cycle, made up of five sets of the twelve signs.? The five repetitions of the signs each correspond to a different element, adding more intricacy to the animal.

The five elements are Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, and Earth.

In Chinese astrology, the elements are part of a cycle; one is not higher or better than another.? In fact, they have a cyclical relationship, both in positive and negative ways, so that:

Water makes Wood
Wood makes Fire
Fire makes Earth
Earth makes Metal
Metal makes Water

and:

Water destroys Fire
Fire destroys Metal
Metal destroys Wood
Wood destroys Earth
Earth destroys Water

In addition, they can be openly aggressive and hostile:

Water resists Fire
Fire resists Metal
Metal resists Wood
Wood resists Earth
Earth resists Water

So now you know the basics of Chinese Astrology.? Enjoy exploring your Chinese sign!

What's Astrology Good For ?

You usually find it on the comics page. Most people who read it make jokes about it; some, under their breath, comment on how spooky it is...

This is not astrology. Consider:

If someone wrote a column that broke all of us down into 12 "types" then proceeded to tell us what diseases we had, would you call that Medicine?

I've been an astrologer for over 36 years and I have a couple of things to say about what it's worth.

First, it is worth studying for the Meaning it can add to our lives. Care must be taken here, though. Any astrologer that says it can predict your future is Dead Wrong.

Second, it's good for broadening our understanding of just how many factors go to make up a complete person. We All Have All Twelve Signs In Our Natures! No one is lacking any of them. In a complete chart they are all there. True, most people have 4 or 5 more emphasized but we all have all twelve.

A good place to get your whole chart for free (plus a free interpretation) is:

http://mychart.astrologyweekly.com/

Third, astrology is supreme at helping us track Cycles in our lives. It's very good at answering questions like: Have these circumstances happened before? How can I face them this time with more of my true self? What in my past has a bearing on what's happening now? How can I take what I have now and use it in the best way in the future?

So, more meaning, a broader understanding, and cyclic awareness. Not bad for something that can't even predict the future, eh?

You can read much more about it in my new book. Go to my blog and check it out:

The difference between synastry and composite astrology relationship reports

In astrology there is more than one way to analyze a relationship. Two of the major methods are synastry and composite relationship reports. These reports are distinct from each other and are complimentary.

A synastry report analyzes each chart separately and compares them to each otherto determine areas of ease, area of conflict, and general compatiblity between the individuals as well as the relationship potential of each person involved in the relationship. This kind of chart considers each person individually and as they related to each other.

A composite report does not take into consideration the individuals involved but rather analyzes the relationship itself. This report averages the information from each of the charts and creates a new andseparate entity that is the chart of the relationship itself. In a composite chart the idea is that the relationship is greater than (or at least not the same as) the sum of its parts. Individuals who have a "perfect" synastry comparison may not have an easy composite chart andthe reverse is true as well.

Astrology reports are a wonderful tool. With synastry, composite or any kind of relationship analysis astrology reports it is especially important to remember that no astrology report can tell an individual whether a relationship will or will not work. What a synastry or relationship analysis report CAN tell an individual about their relationship with another person is how much effort the relationship will take - what aspects of the relationship come easily, which take some effort, the strengths and the weaknesses of the relationship. With the awareness and insights provided by an astrological compatibility astrology report, partners can have a better understanding of themselves, each other, and their relationship.

Relationship compatibility / synastry reports are not limited to romantic relationships, but provide useful information for friends and business associates as well.

The Truth About Astrology

I've been a student of astrology for about 36 years now and the most amazing thing to me is all the untruths or half-truths that are constantly circulated about it. If your level of understanding of astrology has been what the newspapers put out ( on the comic pages, usually...), this article should be mind-boggling. If you've read a few magazine articles, you'll find a few things you may not have considered. But if you're a person who's read a number of books about astrology, this article may say nothing new to you OR it may seem like it's not actually about astrology--depends on the books you've been reading.

The first truth about astrology I want to share is that no one has only one Sign. Let's say you were born on April 15th. You'd be expected to say, "I'm an Aries." Well, that's true as far as it goes but it just doesn't go far enough. In fact, if you think that what's said about Aries in the books, magazines or newspapers is "exactly" what you are and only what you are, you really need to look a little deeper into yourself--you're missing a lot!

The fact that you're "an Aries" or "a Capricorn" or "Whatever" is saying that, when you were born, the Sun was in that Sign of the Zodiac. And, it is very important where your Sun was when you were born because the Sun in astrology refers to your Central Life Purpose--can't get much more important than that!

However...

How do you actually go about "doing" that central purpose? The first place to look for an answer to that question is where the Moon was when you were born. And, since there are twelve places (the Signs) the Moon could have been, there are twelve different ways someone with any particular Sun-Sign can Do their central purpose. So, if someone says to me, "I'm a ______{fill in the Sign}.", I want to say (but may not due to tact), "Which of the twelve kinds of ______ are you?"

So, the truth is you have a Sun-Sign, a Moon-Sign, and eight other important Signs because everyone has eight other planets in their full chart. Some of these planets may be in the same Sign (happens often) so most people end up with about four or five of the twelve Signs very prominent in their lives. It's like a chord of notes being sounded--like the truth of psychology that everyone has many sides to their whole self.

An even deeper truth about astrology is that we all have all twelve Signs in our personalities. It's just that certain ones are stronger depending on where the planets are. Still, if someone says to me, "I just can't stand ______{fill in the Sign}!", I really have to wonder why they've met so many screwed-up people with their Sun in _______ OR I have to wonder why they don't like the _______part of themselves. Since everyone has all twelve Signs and they all have a place in our lives, if someone can say they don't like one of the Signs, aren't they also saying they don't like a certain part of themselves? Think about it...

So, we all have all twelve of the energies represented by the Signs of astrology and most of us have four or five of them very prominent in our personalities. One thing this truth shoots down is the common practice of saying that certain Signs get along well or poorly with other Signs. Because most people think your "Sign" (and that we have only one) is all there is to astrology, they can be very surprised when a person with one of the "Signs" they're supposed to get along with turns out to be someone they wish they'd never met! That's why it's so important to know more than just a Sun-Sign if you're going to use astrology to help you with relationships.

And, that leads us to another important truth about astrology. This may be real hard for some folks to understand but here it is: Astrology does not, will not, and never has predicted events. What?! Yes. It's the absolute truth, no matter if some astrologer has "predicted" something for you. What astrology does "predict" or reveal is Meaning. And, if an astrologer tells you something is going to happen, don't you think that if it does there may just be a bit of self-fulfillment in that? O.K. What if an astrologer says some event happened in your past and that, in fact, it did happen? Believe it or not, what happened is that the astrologer saw a meaning in the chart and made a very good guess at the exact event. And, here's some proof of that:

Many years ago, I had the opportunity to talk to two men, born of different mothers but at the same time at the same hospital. Since they had the same chart you'd think they would have had the same events happening in their lives, right? Well, all it takes is one contrary occurrence of something to disprove a theory and here it is:

There was a strong indicator in their charts at a certain time and I asked the first man what happened. He said his father had died. I asked the other man with the same chart what happened and he said he'd been on his first nude beach...

Obviously, the same chart had shown two very different events! Then, I asked the first man (and, by the way, I interviewed these men separately), "What did it mean when your father died?" He said that he'd felt like he'd had shackles removed (his father had been rather authoritarian). I asked the other man, "What did it mean to be on your first nude beach?" He said that he had dropped his shackles... They used exactly the same, and not so common, word to describe what two very different events meant.

So, we all have all twelve Signs and astrology doesn't predict events. Whew!

There are other truths about astrology that most people have no knowledge about but those two should help open a few minds, eh?

It's been 36 years since I was like a lot of people--believing whatever I'd been told about astrology. Now, I know the truth. Fact is, I've finally written a book about what I've learned. It's called, "Astrological Repair Manual", because I want to help repair various perceptions about it that can be pretty harmful if folks think they're true. The book is featured on my web site-- http://www.lulu.com/amzolt

I'll end this article with this piece of advice:

Question most of what you've read or heard about astrology!

~~~~~~~~~
Also, I'd love to hear from you with any comments or criticisms you may have about this article. Everything can be improved, right ?
Is Astrology A Real Science?
Astrology is a type of prophetic look into the future using the solar system and bodies in the sky. There are various types out there and by far most of the astrology that you'll find done is anything but real. Yet, true astrology is very perplexing because it can be very real. The celestial bodies can do many things like provide you with the ability to understand, to organize the knowledge, and to interpret the world around you. Often, it is said that the location of various bodies means something.
Traditionally, astrology is based on the relative positions and the movements of the celestial bodies (both real and non existent.) One of the main things that astrology claims to provide is an understanding of personality traits. It is believed that the positions of the celestial bodies in the sky influences many things such as your personality traits, your physical characteristics and even important things that will happen within your life. Some astrologers believe that each person has a predestined life and that that life can be reflected and told from the sky above.
Where did astrology come from? It is believed that the Western form of astrology originated in ancient Babylon and then spread to other nations and to other lands. It was found to be in Greece in the middle of the fourth century BC and then hit Rome before the Christian era began. From there, it spread throughout the world with the Roman Empire.
But, is it real? That is the question that many people want to know. While it is a controversial subject, there can be something to it. For example, for many people, by instilling in them a sense that something is going to happen almost makes it happen. And, for others allowing them to believe today will be a good day that it will be just that. But, often, even without any scientific proof, we can find that astrology is right on the money. While it is likely that astrology will not be able to prove that is works in a controlled study, those that have had astrology work for them believe none the less.
The Fascination With Astrology - How Good
In the 1920's, there was a big sensation in the US. Two sisters had photographed fairies flying around flowers in their garden. It was an unbelievable event. The two gave interviews and talked stuff. It was after more than sixty years that one sister revealed the whole thing was a hoax. The fairies were made of paper. Nonetheless they captured public imagination. It was something different and unbelievable, but was revealed a hoax later. But thousands of paranormal and supernatural things remain the way they are- uncanny and unimaginable. No one has explanations. All the same, people love to know more and indulge in these pursuits.
Very often we have astrologers predicting events. Most people love the opportunity to get one's palm read by an astrologer. Believe the stuff or scoff at it. But the whole idea is fascinating to humans. Many people read the headlines of a newspaper later, but read their horoscope first. Astrologers and fortune tellers may talk in deceptive and ambiguous terms. Knowing the same, people flock to them.
Science and scientists try a lot. They never come up with satisfying explanations to paranormal and psychic stuff. Human beings are a curious lot. Issues with explanations satisfy them. But things with no explanations fascinate them. Take this one. Former US presidents Abraham Lincoln and John F Kennedy - Kennedy's life was very nearly a copy of Lincoln's. Both became presidents after similar victories. Held office for nearly same number of days. Both were assassinated outside a theater near their car. The name of the killer was the same in both cases. These two incidents happened more than eighty years apart. Science does not have any explanation to this. People are intrigued by such happenings.
Human minds are adventurous. Always in search of thrills. No wonder, why horror movies are so popular. Everyone knows it's all make believe. People still get white with fear inside cinemas and dream of ghosts for next few days. Calling spirits of dead people has become an industry in Britain. You have Gypsy ladies peering in a psychic glass ball and calling spirits of the dead people you want to get in contact with. Forget the common man, British aristocracy has been known to visit them more than anyone else.
Science-fiction -a word that sums up the topic. All the science-fiction novels, movies is make-believe. Nothing is real but every thing's in a proper scientific way. Giant spaceships, alien landings, UFOs kidnapping people all happen in science fiction. Actually there's a group of people in US who claim to have been kidnapped by UFOs. They believe, they have had extra-terrestrial contact. What's true, what's not only time will tell. Now if there were a time machine to travel in the future like in the movies...
East meets west astrology: capricorn in relation to the chinese zodiac
Read how a Capricorn can be influenced by the year he was born under his Chinese zodiac sign. Information on two different astrological systems.
CAPRICORN THE GOAT (born December 22 to January 20): The Capricorn is a very pragmatic, down to earth, dependable individual. He can also be stingy, pessimistic and cold. He is not the most social of creatures, and generally has few friends. Though he may enjoy the company of a close friend or family, he needs equal time alone. He is not very aesthetically inclined, and tends to prefer function over form. If something works, he doesn't worry too much about how it looks, and no matter how well something works, if it isn't useful, he doesn't need it. He rarely has high ambitions- if he simply sees a need for something, he tries to fill it.
GOAT/RATS: Born in 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996. With the Rat's influence, the Goat is inclined to be a bit of a pack rat. He will always worry if he might need something, stash it away and refuse to part with it on the off chance he might get stuck without it some day. He particularly loves gadgets- he'll have a gadget to do just about anything you can think of. If he doesn't have it already, he wants it. He is more likely to give his romantic interest a blender than a bouquet of roses- to the Goat/Rat, the blender is a superior expression of love. The roses will only die in a few days, but the blender will be useful for years to come. Family is important to the Goat/Rat, and he prefers to live in a family in which everyone keeps to their assigned role and function.
GOAT/OX: Born in 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997. The Goat born in the year of the Ox may appear to others to be stuck in a rut. He is all about routines, and he hates to have to waver from his daily rituals. To the Goat/Ox, however, a rut is not only acceptable, but preferable. Don't expect a life of excitement if you want to become permanently involved with him. You can, however, expect a life of consistency and dependability. He has a hard time getting along with people because of his stubborn nature- it will be very difficult to make him vary from his chosen path.
GOAT/TIGER: Born in 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998. If there is any tedious, mundane task that needs to be tackled, call on the Goat/Tiger and he will take care of it. He works tirelessly. He may seem a bit quirky, as he will come up with creative solutions to solve his daily problems and use items in ways they were not intended to be used. He'll plant an herb garden in some old shoes he came across, or use a hair dryer to blow the leaves off his porch. The Tiger, who is creative and rebellious in his own right, will influence the Goat to fly in the face of convention. As long as something serves his purpose, he is happy with it.
GOAT/HARE: Born in 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999. The Goat/Hare is gentle, soft spoken and has the capacity to be very kind. However, don't irritate him, or he'll lash out at you and run away to brood. He won't invite many people into his life or home, but when he does he is a gracious host and will provide for all of your basic needs. He is not very judgmental- live and let live is his motto. As long as you are not bothering him, quite frankly, he doesn't care much what you do. He's a very cautious individual, particularly with his money. He will make sure his family's basic needs are met, but will not be tempted to spend on anything he sees as excessive.
GOAT/DRAGON: Born in 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000. The Goat/Dragon has a tendency to be gentle one moment, and harsh the next. This is because he cares deeply for his cherished friends and family, but will not coddle or indulge people. If he thinks you need to take your medicine, he'll give it to you straight, just as he takes it. Though he can be irrational at times, particularly when he wants his way, he is not petty. He is not one to play games, and expects to be treated with dignity. He will be straight-forward with you, and expect you to be the same with him.
GOAT/SNAKE: Born in 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001. The Goat/Snake is often socially withdrawn. When he finds himself with other people, he will be the observer rather than the participant. He will listen when you talk, but have few words of his own to say. He will watch you as you act, but rarely join in. It is hard to know what he is thinking or what he will make of a situation. He can be downright miserly with his money, and most people will think he is much more financially worse off than he is. He is not easily fooled. He is likely to be very superstitious, however, and will take old wives tales seriously.
GOAT/HORSE: Born in 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002. The influence of the Horse makes for a very perceptive Goat- nothing gets by him. He watches and observes everything, and if you are close to him he may share his insights. He likes to solve problems, for himself or for others, and feels it is his duty to go where he is needed. In his determination to solve it he will work around the clock until he is satisfied. Everything in the household is likely to revolve around him, and he probably won't notice that it does. The Horse/Goat is not as much a slave to routine as other Goats; he takes every moment, decides what needs to be done and proceeds with it, no matter what time it might be or what might be going on.
GOAT/SHEEP: Born in 1919,1931,1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003. The Sheep has a way of softening the Goat's commonly harsh ways. He is much more gentle, and much more flexible under the influence of the Sheep. He is often prone to depression, for he is sensitive and harbors insecurities. He doesn't come out and talk about things easily, he'll let them stew until you pry it out of him. Once he is able to get his problems off his chest, he'll feel better for a while. He will frequently bounce back and forth from optimism to pessimism, depending on how things are going for him. When the outlook is bright, he'll see only good; when things are bad, he'll expect them to just get worse.
GOAT/MONKEY: Born in 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004. The Goat/Monkey has a more playful nature. He'll always look for the fun in his daily work and as he goes about his routine. He'll try to draw you into the fun, particularly if you look like you need a good time. He is comfortable participating in social situations, though he won't often seek them out. Every now and then he likes to break the monotony and does something spontaneous, though it is short lived. He is willing to try new things, though he will quickly revert back to his old favorites. He has a good disposition and is not easily depressed.
GOAT/ROOSTER: Born in 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005. The Rooster teaches the Goat that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. With much self-control and self-discipline, he will work straight through to get the job done before he lets anything distract him. He is very direct, sometimes even thought to be rude, even though it is without mal intent. Even though he is practical by nature, the Rooster's love for things that are colorful and gay will rub off on the Goat, and he may have a collection or two of something frivolous. It will be his pride and joy and he will spend hours delighting in it.
GOAT/DOG: Born in 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006. For the Goat/Dog, his world is his home, and he loves it dearly. He will care for it, protect it, and want to make it as comfortable as possible for himself and his family. He is a good listener. You can tell him your innermost thoughts and know that your secrets will be safe with him. He is honest and trustworthy, the one all the neighbors leave their keys with when going out of town. He wouldn't even think of betraying a confidence- it's just not in his nature. He is very affectionate with his family for a Goat, and will enjoy rough-housing with his kids or just sitting by the fire with his spouse in a contented, mutual silence.
GOAT/BOAR: Born in 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007. The Goat/Boar is often a very plain, simple person. There is nothing extravagant that he wants or needs in his life. He takes pleasure in simple joys, such as a clean home or a job well done. He is behind the times- he doesn't adapt easily to new technology or drastic changes. He prefers to do things the old-fashioned way. He doesn't mind if it will take longer or be more work- he will take his time and do things his own way. He is quiet, polite, and somewhat naive (though he's nobody's fool).
Compatibility, Love, and Astrology - More than just Sun Signs
When it comes to astrology and compatibility there is more to it than just the compatibility of the sun signs. When it comes to the relationship between two people there is of course much more that has to do with the success or the failure of their future than astrology. But for those people that follow astrology and the sun signs, looking at the sun charts can make for interesting comparison. There are many aspects to astrology that are much more complex that they first seem. Comparing charts can sometimes seem far more complicated than beneficial. However, there are some theories that can be simplified without the use of a chart.
When you first go to an astrologer there are several pieces of information that you're going to need to provide so that the astrologer will be able to get an accurate reading on you and your star sign personality. You'll need to have your exact date of birth, including the time that you were born. If you don't know that time you were born your chart won't be quite as precise and accurate as when you have this information. The time that you were born will give the astrologer information about your ascendant and descendant axis, as well as where you are in the house placements. When your time of birth information is missing your compatibility chart won't be very accurate. The other piece of information that you're going to need do provide is where you were born. You many wonder what your place of birth has to do with your sun sign and astrology. This bit of information is needed so that the chart can be as complete as possible.
Once the astrologer has finished your chart you'll have some idea as to what other astrology charts are compatible with you. This way when you meet someone you can find out what their sun sign is and see how well matched you are. Of course you should never take this too seriously, but you can however have a fun conversation over the dinner table about how compatible you are.
Astrology: Fact Or Fiction
?So, what?s your sign?? More than just a corny pickup line, astrology in various forms, has been with mankind for a very long time. People from various countries and cultures, have often looked up to the stars for guidance. Million of people read their daily horoscopes, though most look at it as a mere form of entertainment. Other people genuinely take the art of astrology very seriously and think it is a valid medium with which to predict a person?s personality, as well as their immediate future (though most serious astrologers view magazine horoscopes as just being entertainment).
So where did it all get started? Around 3,500 years ago, the ancient Babylonians were attempting to correlate events that happened on earth (e.g. good crop yields, bad diseases) with things they noticed in the night sky. This was not the first time that this happened, either. Other ancient cultures, such as the Mayans and Aztecs, developed their own form of astrology too. Most of the astrology we see today, though, comes from India, Europe and China. All of it, though, is either deeply routed, or deeply influenced by Babylonian astrology.
Early astrologers simply correlated earthly events with celestial ones. It wasn?t until mathematical astronomy developed (which allows us to predict the movement of stars and planets), around 612-539 BC, that astrologers started to ?predict? the future. It was also around this time that the ?twelve? signs of the zodiac, were created. The oldest recorded horoscope dates back to April 29th 410 B.C. It comes from an old clay plate that was made for the birth of a Grecian man. The tablet is very similar to the natal horoscopes given out today. Even more similar, though, is the vague prediction given about the person. The parts of the tablet that have still survive, state:
??things will be good for you.?
Early Babylonian astrologers were called: Chaldeans. They would set up shops in cities, and offer their services to passersby. Interestingly, it wasn?t until they did this in Greece, that the concept of free will was entered into the equation. Ancient Greeks viewed these chaldeans as jokes, and their predictions to be patently false. They refused to believe that the stars themselves dictated their actions, and that they had no free will. Because of this, astrologers adopted the belief that the stars can only show ?possible pathways? through life. This turned out to be a greater boon for the chaldeans and future astrologers, than it did for the Greeks. Now astrologers had a viable excuse for why their predictions did not always come true.
Finally, we come to the most influential man in astrology: Claudius Ptolemeaus. Also known as Ptolemy, he wrote the book: Tetrabiblos. In it, Ptolemeaus attempted to consolidate all the various aspects of astrology at the time, into some sort of viable standard. Tetrabiblos is generally regarded as the modern astrological ?bible,? from which all western astrology derives.
Okay, so now we see where it all got started, but what?s with the surge in popularity? Astrology was on the downturn back in the 1600?s, as astronomy really took off. It wasn?t until the relatively recent events of World War I, that astrology really started to pick up again. So, why is it that in this day and age, with the knowledge available to most industrial and post-industrial nations, that astrology is so popular? Could it actually be a viable means of telling the future, or a person?s psychology?
So far, that answer is an emphatic NO, from the scientific community. Despite the fact that one Gallup poll found that an estimated 50% of Americans believe in astrology, there has been no scientifically valid evidence to back up this belief. On the contrary, there are quite a lot of counterexamples for it. In fact, there are so many counter-examples to the validity of astrology, that most scientists just dismiss it as a fun diversion. Still, for the sake of closure, a few such examples are given below.
For starters, we have the arbitrary nature of astronomical symbols themselves. All the traditional planets of our solar system (i.e. none of the recently discovered planetary candidates), were named after Roman gods. This assignment was completely arbitrary. There might have been some logic behind it (Mars is red, war has blood, etc.), but overall there is no real reason to think that just because Venus was named after the goddess of love, that it should hold any sway over one?s relationships. If the ?effects? of the planets on people, had any real relationship to the planets themselves, then Venus should be the ruler of bad gas, not love.
Other things to consider are the fact that many astrological terms, are holdovers from a time when the Earth was believed to be the center of the universe (geocentric). As such, astrologers still talk about cycles and epicycles. How many times has one heard an astrologer (or astrology minded individual) say that ?Mars is in retrograde.?
Then there is the fact that Uranus, Neptune and Pluto have only been discovered within the past 250 years. Many astrologers assert that astrological techniques have been accurate for numerous centuries. If planets affect people, then one cannot discount these three; which is to say nothing of the recently discovered ?10th planet.?
Another nail in the proverbial coffin is the mysterious omission of the 13th sign of the zodiac: Ophiuchus. This constellation falls along the ecliptic, and houses the sun during one month of the year (December). Yet modern astrologers choose to ignore the ?serpent bearer,? in favour of the 12 zodiac symbols. The reason, they cite, is the turbid history of the constellation. Ophiuchus lies in a spot in the sky, which once housed multiple constellations. This argument tends to fall apart, though, when one considers that the ancient Greeks, as well as ?father of modern astrology,? Claudius Ptolemeaus, both considered Ophiuchus to be a valid constellation. The more likely scenario seems to be that 12 zodiac symbols fit rather well with the 12 months in the Gregorian calendar. As such, the reason for the omission seems to be convenience and aesthetics, rather than any real problem with the constellation itself.
Two more examples of where astrology fails the test of validity include twin studies and the affect of precession. With twin studies, one sees how two people born at the same time and same place are able to lead lives completely different from each other, even though their astrological horoscope should work for both of them. The affect of precession is even more interesting.
As Earth spins through the universe, it ?wobbles? along its axis due to the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun. This wobble can be compared to the wobble that we see when we spin a top. Even when the top spins very fast, one can still see it make a small circle on the area it is spinning. The Earth does something very similar to this. The geographic North Pole makes a 23.5◦ arc around, what?s known as, the ecliptic pole. This precession proceeds at a rate of 1◦ for every 180 years.
Because of this, the placement of the constellations in the night sky, no longer conforms to their position in the original tropical zodiac. Every zodiac symbol is now off by 1 month. So if one is born in the constellation Virgo, they are actually in the constellation Libra, and so on. There is a separate type of astrology called: Sidereal Astrology. It does take into account, the precession of the planet. It does this by deducting ~24◦ from the constellations. Both versions still suffer from the fact that the constellations themselves, are not of equal size, and thus, do not fit neatly into the 12, 30◦ ?slices? of the sky, that astrologers have assigned them to. As such, constellation overlap still occurs.
More examples include the affect of gravity (why worry about Saturn?s pull, when the moon?s pull is so much stronger!), to magnetic field affects (modern electronics produce magnetic fields much more powerful than Earth?s).
Astrology can be a fun and entertaining diversion for many, but one should always keep in mind that it is for entertainment purposes only.
Dialogue on Astrology
It has been the noble profession of philosophers, social critics, and general thinkers to explain an idea using a story or a tale. By using characters, or dialogue, a writer can explain their thoughts, dreams, or ideals. On the contrary, though, many have used fictional stories as a method of propaganda, to spread lies to the general public, that the ruling class is considered more trustworthy. Few would be able to wholly understand all the suffering and pain caused by the governments of the world. And only few would be able to believe it. The greatest cause of failure to achieve justice and peace in our world today, is that the common people are convinced of the lies of the media, the police, the government, and the big corporations. However, I am digressing from the purpose of this article... Here, I will attempt to draw some arguments out that I have against the idea of astrology. I hope it is as enjoyable as it is enlightening...
Argon: It is because of the distress that our class of men, known as astrologers, has been receiving, that I call this meeting. The faith has been called into question by the men of this modern world. We must now decide how we shall survive.
Texca: But there is another important matter of inquiry.
Argon: Yes?
Texca: Can Astrology truly be used as an accurate method for predicting the future or discovering the past?
Argon: I will say what I once told my apprentice... If you can convince people that you are predicting the future or discovering their past, then you are doing it. The physical universe is cold and inanimate. What is true objectively is non-existant. If you can tell someone what you discover, through cards or books, and they respond positively, then your powers must be true. That is the only way that I can see it.
Larkaz: As far as the recent skepticism of doubters, it must be met virulently. We have made a thousand predictions. Fortunately, the media has taken it to publicize the thirty or so that have come true. It brings a sort of reliability to our profession.
Argon: When we give personal readings, we must tell them something that they can connect with.
Texca: Horrid vagueness is perhaps the best tactic at our disposal.
Opal: Well, what is it, more specfically, that we can tell people, so they are convinced that we know the truth?
Argon: We must ask ourselves: what are the things that commonly go on in the lives of people?
Larkaz: Conflict.
Texca: Money.
Opal: Love.
Argon: In what way can we give a prediction in any of these areas, so they are believed?
Opal: We can say that something will happen today, or in the coming week, or weeks, involving something in regard to conflict, money, or love.
Larkaz: For conflict, we can say that the person will have a betrayal of some sort, or that they will be given the opportunity to break one of their commitments. It is impossible for two friends to coexist without one of them saying or acting negatively towards the other, even if it is in the least. And being given the opportunity to break a commitments could be anything. If you are committed to a lover, it is not hard to find others whom interest you, and if you are committed to a friend, it may be tempting to profit from their loss. By seeing these opportunities, which had existed all along, they are seeing the truth of our statements.
Texca: As far as money goes, we can say a multitude of things. Either an opportunity for person or business investment looms ahead, or at this present time, money may be more tight than usual, or more abundant than usual. At the first sign of an expensive cost, they will see the truth of the statement that money is tight, and at the first sign of incoming wealth, even if it is a common, routine employment check, they will see the truth of the statement that money is abundant. As far as business investments go, they can see anything as a business investment, whether they are simply buying some product in a store, or they are loaning money to a friend, things which are hardly uncommon, they are seeing the validity of supernatural prediction.
Opal: For love, we can say that an old romance may come back in to their lives, or they will be meet someone new who will have a lasting impact on their lives. Both of these things are common. For instance, how many old romances do each of us have? Countless. And even just a chance meeting with one, or a phone call, or even someone mentioning them, or just even the thought of one, will be enough for a person to think, "Yes, I had an old romance come back into my life briefly." When it comes to meeting someone new who will have a lasting impact on their lives, that is perhaps the most vague of them all, but most enticing. If someone can give them a light for their cigarette, and they forever remember that incident, they may very well confide in themselves, "Yes, it is true that this person had a lasting impact on my life."
Argon: As I said, vagueness is our tactic, but coupled with interpretation, we become unstoppable. "A commitment," or "a business opportunity," or "meeting someone new," -- these are all horribly vague words, but we must tell people to interpret them in their own regard. A friend of mine predicted that a woman would become pregnant in two months. When she explained that she had a hystorectomy and could not bear children, he covered his mistake by saying, "You will have an addition to your life, either a pet or a friend will become part of your household. Interpret it as you have to."
Texca: How is that vague, though? I mean, if you say, "You will have a business opportunity in two weeks," how is that vague?
Argon: Well, compare it with something specific. If we were giving out helpful readings, we would say something like, "You know that guy John? He's going to come to you Tuesday, at six o'clock, and he's going to ask to borrow two hundred dollars. If you let him borrow this money, don't expect to see it again for three weeks. He's going to spend it on a drug binge, but he'll get you back once he cleans up." See, if we said something like that, maybe we could be accurately described as real predicters. But go on and try to say something like that to someone, and they'll say you're crazy, because nothing you say has anything to do with their lives. Or maybe they'll be so stupid, they'll think, "Oh, by John, he meant Bert, and by drug binge, he meant television set, and by two hundred dollars, he meant fifty dollars, and by three weeks, he meant one weekend." Remember, vagueness and interpretation.
Larkaz: We can spread our ability to predict through various facets. Astrology. We can have newspapers publish our predictions for people, based on the time of the month they were born. We can always throw in some psuedo-science, by saying some astrological bodies or whatever have gravity on you more during those times -- despite the fact that they have the same pull on everyone else, too. There's also Tarot Card readings. Based on a card, we can make some vague prediction and suggest the listener to use interpretation when hearing it.
Opal: But it doesn't seem like we're offering much help by this method at all.
Argon: What do you mean? We're telling them the truth. Once they hear it, they look for. They look for things that happen everyday, every hour, and they're going to see it. Once they have prove that our prediction is true, they'll come back -- and so will their money.
Opal: For all the value we actually give, we may as well say, "This is life. Things happen. Sometimes you'll have conflict problems, looming money disputes, or possible love affairs. These happen every day, sometimes every hour. Good luck." After all, that is what we really are saying.
Texca: We're not saying that. We don't say, "You'll have conflict problems." We say, "In a week and a half, you'll have to choose the loyalty of an old friend or a new lover. Choose wisely." We don't say, "You'll have money disputes." We say, "Someone you barely know will come to you for money. Choose wisely." We don't say, "You'll have possible love affairs." We say, "Next month, you'll light up a romance with a beautiful, attractive lover. Be careful. If you are not assertive, they may try to take advantage of you."
Opal: So, we are basically rephrasing the plain, dull truth, to make it look attractive, so we can fill our pockets?
Texca: We are telling people what they need to hear.
Argon: If we didn't tell someone that a business investment was coming up, they might miss out on a great opportunity.
Opal: How can we help? We don't actually know if it is a good deal. We don't know if they will get ripped off. And hell, saying "choose wisely" won't help them a damn bit.
Argon: But we do know one truth. We know that this is life, and things happen.
Opal: If that's all we know, then we know no more than the person we are predicting the future to.
Texca: That seems like an accurate approximation.
Astrology and Vedic Yajnas / Rituals in Hindu Religion
As per Vedic Astrology texts, there are two types of Yajnas / rituals or tasks - the daily ones and the occasional ones.
The daily Yajnas / rituals are those which a person accomplishes on a daily basis. In addition, daily prayers to "Your Deity" also come within the purview of the above. While the occasional ones are often done for fulfilling a particular wish. This wish may be as diverse as the desire for having a child, the desire for wealth in times of financial constraints, having a long term romantic affair / stability in a love relationship, success on the business front or getting rid of certain diseases. In this way, the basis for performance of occasional duties may be anything related to a person or collective welfare. In such a situation, a person seeks the help of astrology when the desires are not completely fulfilled.
A learned Astrologer arrives at a decision after collectively analysing the placement of various planets in a person's Horoscope chart. Accordingly, the Astrology prediction is given and Astrology remedies in the form of Yajnas / rituals is prescribed for fulfilling the particular desire.
The relationship between astrology and Vedic Yajnas / rituals is one and important. This is because the auspicious time cannot be found without the help of astrology whereas Vedic Yajnas / rituals cannot be performed without the help of any auspicious time.
Here's to Your Good Health with Astrology
Who doesnt want to be healthy? Ive been fascinated with health ever since I can remember. My grandmothers best friend was bedridden with rheumatoid arthritis since she was in her early thirties. My own mother had chronic mental and physical illnesses (some would call it hypochondria). Seeing these people suffer set me on my path as a healer.
In my family, it was not an easy thing to be interested in good health. Believe it or not, being interested in health opened me to ridicule. Adele Davis, a pioneer in the health food community, was just beginning to write books like, Lets Eat Right to Keep Fit. My father called her a health food nut and downed another piece of rare roast beef, two martinis, French fries and a Caesar salad, chased with a chain of PallMalls
My grandparents lived past 95 in excellent health. My parents died at 58 and 60. They cut more than 35 years off those wonderful genes with their lifestyle.
These are the principles I advocate for a lifetime of good health.
1.Its your health.
2.Your physical health and your mental health are the same thing.
3.Be yourself.
Let me explain each one with some examples.
#1 Its your health.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is your health. Its not the doctors health or the governments health. Its your health and its your responsibility to keep yourself healthy.
The Greeks had a wonderful saying about this, After 30, every man is his own doctor.
If, by the time youre 30, you dont understand your own body and what makes it work, there is no power on earth that can save you from yourself.
If there are some things that run in your family youd like to change, learn about DNA reprogramming and healing with The Sunhealer at www.sunhealer.com
Jesus is one of many great healers through the ages. The first question Jesus asked a sick person was, Do you want to be healed? Ask yourself this question. Listen to your answer.
Food is preventive medicine or slow poison. Please learn about your own body; take the time to educate yourself about nutrition; and avoid white sugar and white flour as if your life depended on it.
Know your stress points. When youre under stress, whats the first thing in your body to go? Is it your stomach, headaches, your back? From now on, this will be your flagship. Your body knows before you do, its time to make a change.
#2 Your physical health and your mental health are the same thing.
This principle is nifty for self healing because you can come at a problem either through the mind or through the body.
If youre feeling depressed, you can take Yoga and by putting your body into positions of self confidence and life force energy, your spirits will lift.
If your stomach is tied up in knots all the time and you have chronic anxiety, you can raise in your consciousness the idea of self acceptance and the concept that you are safe and wanted in the world and these symptoms will disappear.
You can make changes in the physical world, such as leaving an abusive spouse and your mental and physical health will improve.
The easiest and fundamental connection between the mind (mental health) and body (physical health) is the breath. When we breath consciously, no negative emotion can be present. Simple but profound, this is one of the great secrets of meditation.
#3 Be yourself.
Trying to be something youre not is life-threatening. Most people will interpret the statement trying to be something youre not negatively. What we mean is, trying to be a different type of person than you naturally are.
Type is defined according to the popular concepts of typing personality that we find in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(r) or in Keirsey Temperament Theory. If you wonder what your type is, visit www.keirsey.com for a free self test.
Here are some examples from real life.
If you love solitude and the great outdoors, dont get yourself stationed on a submarine.
If you love confrontation, competition and running the show dont be a teacher or case worker.
If you love children, soft moments, nurturing and intimacy dont try being a litigation attorney.
Why do we try to be something we arent? It happens in a context of trying to please others parents, teachers, religious leaders, spouses.
According to Dr. Katherine Benziger (www.benziger.org) the short term cost of trying to be something youre not is increased irritability, headaches and difficulty in mastering a new task.
The long term results include exhaustion, depression, lack of joy, a homeostatic imbalance involving oxygen or the pre-mature aging of the brain and a vulnerability to illness.
I have clients with chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, insomnia, cancer, tumors, esophagitis, migraines, bleeding ulcers, chronic diarrhea, obesity, manic-depressive disorders, deep scarring acne, strokes, apnia, and drinking problems who still will not consider making a lifestyle change.
Could these people be healed? Yes, certainly. When they begin to shift over into who they really are, the symptoms will disappear, sometimes dramatically.
If this solution is too simple, please ask yourself why things have to be so complicated in your life.
My special message today is for introverts. Our definition of ourselves has been controlled for the most part by people who dont understand us because the majority of people in the world, 70%, are extroverts.
Were in the process of reclaiming our right to be exactly the way we are. Introverts need to spend at least half their time alone for good mental health. This has nothing to do with our love of people. We give energy to others and need time alone to fill up again.
Introverts, please be honest about your needs for time alone and other territorial issues. You can find some great resources for introverts at my website www.theintrovertzcoach.com .
For all people wanting to cut down on their stress, one of the greatest services I can render is an astrology reading. Astrology is one of the few places you can go in the world where you will find someone holding up a clear mirror to who you really are.
Astrology is a paradigm that gives each person permission to be exactly who they are. We get as close as we can to the gods eye view of you. Astrologers recognize the absolute uniqueness of each individual.
When you see an astrologer, we will say to you, Let me tell you about the wonderful person I see here in your astrology chart. We are positive and supportive people.
If you have drifted so far from yourself, you cant find your way back home, give an astrologer a call. We have the map.
All change starts within. I hope Ive given you some great things to think about on your road to good health. Please remember these three principles
#1 It is your health.
#2 Your physical health and your mental health are the same thing.
A Fine Line between Heaven, Hell and Astrology: Angelic Governors of the ZodiacC. Bailey-Lloyd/Lady
Have you ever wondered which Angel governs your sign? And did you know that all Angels are not exlusively deriven from Heaven?
Have you ever wondered which Angel governs your sign? And did you know that all Angels are not exlusively deriven from Heaven? With regards to your personality, each of these entities play a role in your individuality.
[Rf. from "A Dictionary of Angels" by Gustav Davidson]
The Angel, Machidiel, (meaning "fullness of God"), governs the month of March and is also the ruler of Aries.
Asmodel, the Angel of April, rules the Zodiacal sign of Taurus. He is widely known as the "demon of punishment."
May's Angel, Ambriel governs Gemini and is the chief officer of the 12th hour of night. On an Oriental, Hebrew charm, Ambriel's name is inscribed to ward off evil.
Then we have Muriel, the Angel of June and the ruler of Cancer. Muriel is interesting in that not only is he the chief officer of the 3rd hour of the day but if "invoked" from the South is believed to procure a magic carpet.
The Angel of July, Verchiel, ruler of Leo. Not only is Verchiel one of the rulers of the order of powers, but he also governs the Sun.
Hamaliel, Angel of August, a ruler of Virgo is also one of the rulers of the "orders of virtue."
Libra's ruler, Uriel, (translating "Fire of God"), governor of September, is also known as the Archangel of salvation and is renowned globally from the infamous painting - Dryden's "The State of Innocence," depicted descending from heaven in a chariot drawn by white horses. He is also likened to divine vengeance and Justice ~ thus the "scales of Libra."
Barbiel, ruler of Scorpio and the Angel of October is one of the 28 angels of the 28 mansions of the Moon. Barbiel also serves as one of the seven Electors in the underworld.
The Angel of November and ruler of Sagittarius is Adnachiel. He and Phaleg-referred to as the "Warlord," alternate as ruling Angels of the Order of Angels.
Haniel, Angel of December and ruler of Capricorn meaning "Glory or grace of God," is known as the chief of innocents. He is invoked as an amulet against evil.
Aquarian ruler, Gabriel ( "God is my strength") and Angel of January is one of the two highest-ranking angels in Judaeo-Christian and Mohammedan religion. He stands for annunciation, resurrection, mercy, vengeance, death and revelation. He presides over Paradise and is the ruling prince of the 1st Heaven. He is also said to sit on the left-hand side of God and known as the spirit of truth. Gabriel was the Angel who inspired Joan of Arc to go the succor of the King of France.
Barchiel, the Angel of February and the ruler of Pisces, ("Lightening of God") is one of the 7 archangels, and is also known to be the ruler of Jupiter
It is evident, Astrologically speaking, the Zodiac closely mirrors the Heaven that we know and the Angels therein. So, the words, "It is written in the Stars" truly exhibits our predestination of life and all that lies within. How we use our knowledge, experience and Angelical Governors of the Zodiac is up to us.
Influence of Astrology in Indian Marriages
Astrology is considered to be the oldest of all sciences, which studies the effects of the planetary positions and movements on our lives. Indian Astrology is an integral aspect of the Vedic literature (Vedic Astrology) and was practiced over the years by Indian sages and passed on to their disciples. In olden days, the kings would depend on astrology to determine the right and auspicious time before embarking on any new and important initiatives. Ages later, today, we still find the strong influence of astrology in our day-to-day life. Any major event in life, whether it is marriage, buying a car, buying a house, or even entering a new house, is undertaken only after consulting the astrologer for an auspicious time.
Astrology is in-depth science with multiple widespread branches. It is used to create birth or natal charts (Jathaka / Janampatri) based on the time, date and place of birth, to answer any specific questions Prashnas, to find the auspicious time and day called Muhurtha. While all of these aspects of astrology are well in use today, one of the most popular one is the creation of Jathakas and matching of Jathakas for marriages. Marriage is an important aspect of life. In India, when a child is born, the exact place, date and time is documented and when the child grows older his/her natal chart is created based on this birth data. When the child attains marriageable age, his/her natal chart is matched with those of prospective brides and grooms to find an astrologically compatible match. This is an age-old tradition, which is practiced with equal fervor even in this tech-savvy, net-savvy age.
It is interesting to note that, thousands of years ago astrology was imparted by the teachers to their pupils orally. During the beginning of Kali Yuga the astrological literature was documented for the future generation. Today, the essence of astrology has been captured and converted into astrological software. These softwares are immensely accurate and provide extensive reports based on scientific calculations. One such service is provided on the website www.BridesandGroomsIndia.com, which is an Indian matrimonial site. The Astrology section provides various astrological services like horoscope / natal chart generation, horoscope / natal chart matching for compatibility, star matching for compatibility.
Indian Astrology is an integral part of the Indian culture and most of the marriages are consummated only after consulting an astrologer. At BridesandGroomsIndia.com a genuine effort is made to help prospective couples figure out whether they are compatible to be bound in the holy wedding knot.
Water Signs
Water signs are reflective, responsive and whose nature is toward abundance, sometimes excess. Their hallmark is their emotional, expressive nature.
Cancer Caring - (June 22 July 22) Cancer is ruled by the Moon and its symbol is the crab. It is a Water sign, and as such is connected to the world of emotion and the instincts. People react in a positive way to your sensitive intuitive nature. If its a love interest you are after, you instinctively know how to get the attention you desire. Because you are a good friend and confidante, people have a tendency to confess their sins to you. When it comes to flirting you prefer a more demure or reserved approach to one that is overt. You are a caring, nurturing lover and enjoy cuddling and hand-holding. You may seduce the object of your desire with a home-cooked meal of fare that is fit for a king or queen. You tend to fuss over the object of your affections, a clear indication that you are interested in pursuing the relationship further. Pampering and affection are your signatures in romance. You are also very protective of your love interests (all relationships for that matter) and will go to the ends of the earth to make those in your life feel safe and secure. Family is important to you and you enjoy sharing family traditions as well as starting those of your own creation. For you, home is where the heart is. You are a thoughtful partner and lover and give your full attention to your mate. Giving your undivided attention is your way of flirting. You tend to be more attracted to the outrageous than one who looks and act like everyone else. You are sometimes thought of as a rebel with a cause and will be attracted to a partner who you shares your desire to change the world. You are a free spirit who needs his or her own space, but dont mind sharing that space with the object of your affection, as long as you dont get pushed into a corner. You enjoy sharing your vision of the future with the one you desire and consider it your way of flirting. Sometimes you appear aloof or unemotional, which can be a turn-off for some. Not to worry, the right person will find it attractive and be curious to know what lies beneath that detached exterior. It seems an odd way to "flirt", but it can be attractive to those who are curious and have a similar demeanor. It is the game of intrigue that can often turn someone on and make them want to know more. The Aquarius is a creative and imaginative in lover and will often seduce the object of their desire in unusual ways (and places).
Here Comes the Sun (Signs) - Romance, Astrology and You (Part Two)
Earth Signs
In Part One, I talked about how astrology can determine how you act and react in romantic situations. We also covered the fire signs. Earth signs are physical and have to do with primarily material affairs. They are natural and their feet tend to be firmly planted on the ground, "earthy" types. The hallmark of earth signs is practicality.
TAURUS - (April 21 May 21) Taurus is ruled by Venus and its symbol is the bull. Taurus is an Earth sign which is connected with fruitfulness and stability. You love luxury and sensual comforts such as silky satin sheets, robes fit for a king or queen and beautiful surroundings. You seek comfort, security and beauty. A perfect romance to you is one that is harmonious and beautiful, even if a bit materialistic. Because of your fondness for pretty things, you will proudly display your possessions and purchasing power. You are easygoing, calm, and comfortable to be around. You enjoy sharing "quiet times" with your love interest and also get excited about everyday activities such as shopping and cooking and dining. You tend to be stubborn and will do whatever you can to get what you want. When it comes to showering affection on the object of your desire, you enjoy physical contact. You have a very sensual nature and appreciate the pleasures of food, art, music, perfumes, fondling, or sex. Because you appreciate nature; a walk in the woods, hiking and rock-climbing may be considered exciting dates. You also love sunsets camping, gardening and simply being outdoors and can be attracted to those who are equally down-to-earth and outdoorsy. As long as your partner or mate displays the qualities of loyalty and honesty qualities which you likely possess, they will have your undying loyalty and a relationship destined to endure.
VIRGO - (August 23 - September 22) Virgo is ruled by Mercury and is symbolized by the Virgin. As an Earth sign, Virgo is connected with material things and practicality. The ultimate organizer, you gravitate toward anything that puts your analytical mind to use. To the outside world you may appear reserved and tend to hold back your emotions, when it comes to love, its no holds barred for the loving Virgo. You display great attention to detail which can be considered good fortune or a curse when it comes to relationships. You are good at remembering your partners desires (even those that were only mentioned in passing) and love to cater to those desires. To you, organizing the object of your affections is considered flirting. Your favorite role is to be of help and service to friends and partners. You are witty, perceptive and logical. Your reasoning powers help you to resolve conflicts easily and quickly taking your romance to new depths. You need a partner who will help you loosen your cautious shy nature. You are a good listener and communicator, an important aspect in romance. You love to fuss over your partner and can sometimes be seen as critical. Your partner should know though, that if you were not interested, you would not work so hard to help your love interest be all he or she can be. Good health is of great concern to you and you work hard to take care of yourself. You aim to please and when it comes to love you fall hard. Virgos are most attracted to those who keep themselves physically fit.
Capricorn (December 22 - January 20) Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and is symbolized by the sea goat. As an Earth sign, Capricorn is motivated, determined and sets practical goals. Taking unnecessary risks is not your thing, even in the area of romance. You are ambitious and responsible. You will, however do whatever it takes to get what you want. Social status, reputation, position, and career are important to you. You use these to impress and attract the object of your desires. When it comes to love, no silly games for you, you prefer a more mature approach to courtship. Glamour and dazzle are more your style so an evening that starts out in a limousine would be perfect. You are supportive and dependable, good qualities in any relationship. Security, a good home, and the finer things in life are what you strive for. You do not shy away from commitment, as long as it is with the right person in fact you "play for keeps" and will be forever faithful. Some might consider you a loner, but do not be fooled by the aloof Capricorn. You are longing for a deep, meaningful relationship with just the right partner. Capricorns can be as powerful in the bedroom as they are in the boardroom, so lovers beware. You are seen by your peers as a winner and often attract the same. When it comes to romantic adventures, you are both practical and romantic so a perfect getaway for you could include both work and play.
Here Comes The Sun (signs) - Romance, Astrology And You (part One)
Ladies, if you want to have a successful dating life, certain phrases should never come out of your glossy lips. Here they are:
1. WHEN WILL I SEE YOU AGAIN? Youll see him when you see him. If he wants to see you again, hell call. If not, next. You dont have time for anyone that doesnt have time for you.
2. WHY DIDNT YOU CALL? Theres only one answer to this question: Because he didnt want to!!! What youre really asking is, Why didnt you want to call me? Who knows!! There could be a lot of reasons, but you shouldnt be sitting around wondering why. You should be out dating lots of different guys and not worrying about ONE guy. Dont be so quick to put all your eggs into one basket, because if they break, its a big mess!
3. WHERE WERE YOU? If he wanted you to know where he was, hed tell you. What youre really asking is, Where you with another female that you like better than me? Your insecurity is showing, my dear. If anything, he should be wondering where you were.
4. I LOVE YOU (FIRST) - Youre saying it in the hopes that hell say it back, but what if he doesnt? Youll be devastated and probably feel foolish. Saying I love you is not going to speed things up if hes not ready to say it back. So just cool it, and let him be the first to say it when hes ready.
5. DID YOU SLEEP WITH HER? As long as hes not sleeping with her now, who cares? The past is gone. Dont torture yourself (and him) with these thoughts. In this case, ignorance really is bliss.
6. IM PREGNANT. In 2005, with all the birth control choices available, there is no excuse for becoming pregnant, unless you want to be. You should be using something and he should use a condom, every time.
7. WHERE IS THIS GOING? Nowhere fast if thats your attitude. Guys want someone fun and easy to be with, not someone thats constantly worrying about the future. His actions or non-actions will tell you where its going. If its going somewhere, youll know it. If its not, youll know it too.
8. WE NEED TO TALK. This is the equivalent of, Go to the principals office. Guys know its not going to be a fun conversation, so theyre already on the defense. If you need to discuss something, just casually bring it up when the both of you are relaxed. Dont try to talk to him when hes tired, stressed or trying to watch tv!
9. I HATE YOU! Even if you do, its totally uncalled for and un-lady like. If theres an issue, be mature enough to discuss it when youre calm. If hes breaking up with you, reacting with anger may make you feel better temporarily, but its best to remain calm and act unfazed. Hell wonder why youre so cool about it and that may make him re-think his decision. Always be pleasant during a break up. Do you want to be known as the girl that goes psycho if someone breaks up with her?? I didnt think so.
10. I DONT TRUST YOU. What youre actually saying is, You need to step up your game, because I can see youre up to something. If he is up to something, hell just become even sneakier. Better to think smart and act dumb-itll be easier to get the evidence you need to confirm your suspicions.
Medical Electional Astrology
Electional and horary astrology are two areas of astrology that deserve more attention from students and professionals than they sometimes get.
Related in interpretation but different in intent, horary and electional astrology are two forms of astrological chart analysis that are similar by analogy to the relationship between deductive and inductive reasoning.
In horary astrology, a question is asked at a specific time and a chart is cast for that moment. Then the chart is interpreted according to the rules of horary interpretation to yield an answer.
In electional astrology, someone wants to choose an auspicious or lucky time for an event in the future that can be planned, such as a marriage, signing real estate papers, or, in the case of Ronald Reagan, a presidential swearing-in ceremony. The astrologer begins by speculating with the client on a desirable time in the future and then casts a chart for that time and date. This chart is interpreted according to the guidelines for electional astrology in order to determine if this is the best possible date to insure success.
In reviewing a tentative electional chart, the astrologer must decide whether or not the date and time are satisfactory. In truth, since it is not possible to get a perfect electional chart, s/he usually winds up casting half a dozen charts and trying to choose the one that makes the most sense.
Ivy M. Goldstein-Jacobson is the High Priestess of Horary and Electional Astrologer. She has done the most recently to develop and refine the art of this kind of interpretation. Mrs. Jacobson lived from 1893 to 1990. Another expert in the field is William Lilly. He wrote in the 17th Century!
Mrs. Jacobsons wonderful books are now back in print and available on several Internet sites. Many are available secondhand through amazon.com Mrs. Jacobsons book on horary is called Simplified Horary Astrology.
Another essential tool for interpreting charts this way is Rex E. Bills The Rulership Book, also widely available on the Internet. The Rulership Book tells you what sign rules just about anything you can think of from Israel to the kitchen sink. This information is critical to horary and electional chart interpretation.
Lets look at some of the basic steps for reading an electional chart for an operation. Suppose a client has come to asking when is the best time for surgery to remove her uterus.
1. The first thing is to identify the rulership of the area of the body being operated on. We establish this through Bills Rulerships book or general knowledge -- the uterus is a reproductive organ and is therefore ruled by Scorpio and the planet Mars.
The rest of the interpretation follows these general guidelines.
2. The 8th house signifies surgery (Jacobson: The 7th rules the doctor or physician: the surgeon who usually cuts away a part that then dies is ruled by the death-8th.)..
3. The 1st house signifies the patient.
4. Mercury represents the instruments the surgeon will use.
5. The recovery process is signified by the 6th house.
Examine the rulers of these houses and the planets that inhabit them to see what kind of aspects and information are revealed, positive or negative.
For example, if Taurus rules the 6th house, the ruler of that house is Venus. Look to see where Venus is in the chart and how it is aspected in order to find out how the recovery process will go.
Electional astrology requires us to set aside neutral New Age interpretations of planets and aspects and to label certain planets and aspects as the ancients did: benefic planets are good; malefic planets are bad.
The malefic planets are Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Any planet in any aspect to these planets is considered afflicted. This is bad.
The benefic planets are Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter. These planets can aspect each other positively with conjunctions but negatively with squares and oppositions, in which case they are considered afflicted.
The Moon is of critical importance in electional astrology. We look primarily to see what sign the Moon is in and what aspects it makes before leaving the sign.
The best signs for the Moon are Taurus and Cancer. The worst sign for the Moon is Scorpio. For a good ending to surgery, the Moon should not be Void-of-Course (nothing will come of it) and it should make a good aspect before leaving its sign.
Jacobson introduced a Part of Surgery, similar to the Arabic Parts (such as the Part of Fortune with which most of us are familiar). The Part of Surgery is derived by adding the cusp of the first house to Saturn and then subtracting Mars. Look to see if the resulting point in the chart is positive and well aspected.
There are some definite NOs in electional interpretation:
1.the Sun and Moon cannot be in the sign ruling the part of the body to be operated on (in this case Scorpio)
2.the Ruler of the 1st, the Patient, cannot be in bad aspect to the Ruler of the 8th, the Surgeon, or the surgeon cannot help the patient and nothing will come of the operation
3.the Moon cannot be in the same sign as Mars or applying to a quincunx with Mars
4.the Ascendant, its ruler, a planet in the 1st or 8th houses, the Sun, Moon or Mars cannot be in conjunct with one of the evil fixed stars.
If youre not sure what the evil fixed stars are, these are the greatest offenders; Hamal, the Death Wound, at 6 Taurus; Caput Algol or Medusas Head at 24 Taurus; Aldebaran at 8 Gemini; Serpentis, the Cursed Degree, at 9 Scorpio; Antares, evil presages and danger of fatality, at 8 Sagittarius and Scheat, death by drowning (including pneumonia) at 29 Pisces.
Expect to see some affliction on the angles of the chart. After all, if Saturn, Neptune, Uranus or Pluto were not hovering at an angle, there would be no indication of serious surgery pending. However, more than one of these planets indicates a need to pick another time.
There are some further distinctions to this kind of electional medical chart interpretation, but these are the basics.
After you have the chart analyzed, you might do a few more for around the same time period and see if you can get better results. There is no such thing as the perfect time for an event.
Some astrologers are not willing to do electional astrology readings for fear of taking on the responsibility. It is wise to prepare a potential client for the fact that 85% or more of the success of the operation relies on the intelligence and skill of the doctor and the odds given. The rest of the process can be enhanced by timing and that is what a good electional chart can do.
What Ive found with my clients is that their intuition is good and in most cases is already directing them to an appropriate date and time for success.
