When searching for an astrologer, it can be very hard to weed out the good from the fraud. The reality is that most of the astrologers you find online aren't actual astrologers, but people with pricey astrology software who input your birth data, press a few buttons, and out comes your astrology reading. While astrological software has its merits, it's wrong for someone to purchase a reading believing they're getting something unique to themselves. No matter how good astrology software is, it can't replace the actual astrologer, who can spot subtle nuances a computer can't. And hey, is it really fair to shell out $100 to someone for a reading when it only takes them less than five minutes to do it?

That being said, it's hard to find someone who is a true practitioner, so here are a few things to try:

1) Ask people you know for a personal reference if they've gotten a reading from someone and what their experience was. If it's someone you trust, there's no better place to start.

2) Once you've gotten a few astrologers picked out that you're interested in, contact them and ask if they can give you any references. Be warned though, that they could be giving you the name of a friend or family member who'd vouch for them no matter what, so choose your questions carefully. Two questions to ask that can give you a clue are "What is their turnaround time?" and "How long was the reading?" It is an interesting astrology consultation when the astrologer meets with the Aquarian; the normal unfolding of the interpretation of the chart usually is sidetracked. If you are an Aquarius you will be happier if you have space and freedom to do as you please in a work situation, being micro managed does not make for an environment for you to be the best you can be. The Aquarian learned early in life to detach from situations that were too volatile or emotionally charged. Sometimes it was from a family environment where there was confusion or fighting, and they learned to emotional disconnect in order to be protected. The flip side of Virgo is the critical Virgo, always finding what is wrong. Instead of directing the negative not good enough inward, it is directed outward to others and the world. It has been my experience as an astrologer that the Uranian individuals die the youngest from addiction and abuse problems.

The other planet involved with addiction and substance abuse is Jupiter. Strong Jupiter in your astrology chart indicates loving life and having a good time. With a prominent Jupiter the thought of getting trapped in addiction is off the radar. Not me, would cry the Jupiter person, I am just having fun. Yet once again if you put enough narcotics in the body prolonged abuse will lead to the body being addicted. Once the Jupiter person gets they have a problem they can lead and teach others about the perils of thinking it will never happen to them.

Your astrology chart can help you understand how you could be caught in the destructive pattern with drugs or alcohol. More and more people are contacting me these days for an astrology reading because they want a new lease on life. That new lease might include a better place to live, start a home business, make money, or retire.

Sometimes they're just fed up with the area where they live, the people they work or associate with, themselves for staying there too long, the quality of life or lack thereof, and they want out of Dodge NOW.

Astrology is one perspective on finding your best city, location, or place here or overseas. It's not the only one. I want to point that out. Checking your daily horoscope for entertainment is one thing, making a major life change - that's another story.

This article is from notes taken just recently from a conversation between relocation astrologer Cait Benten - that's me - and my friend Christine Troward.

Cait, what can people expect from a relocation astrology reading?

When you contact me, I know you want to find your best city or location in which to work, have a successful career, perhaps start a home based business, raise your family in safety, or retire and so one of the first questions I'm usually asked is, "What is relocation astrology? What is it you do?"

What information do you need to do a relocation astrology reading?

Relocation astrology begins with your birth chart - what we astrologers call your natal chart. Where were you born? What was the EXACT time of your birth. Check your birth certificate. I spend long hours moving your birth chart to find what appears to be your best places in the world to live. It's a long, exacting, and tedious process, and it takes many hours to find the best places that are a match to your natal chart.

What about those inexpensive computer programs? What are their limitations?

A computer program isn't going to find what I'm looking for when I work on your astrology chart. There are too many variables and computer programs aren't intuitive. This is why I interview you and ask what you're looking for in your life, all this happens before I begin your astrology reading which I record and send to you. You listen, then we follow that up with a session where you ask me all your questions.

As I understand it, your astrology readings don't tell people they have to move to a certain place to be successful.

I'll tell you up front that even your most favorable location will present its own unique set of challenges. Oh that life were perfect! Before you visit or move to a certain place, I'll encourage you to count the costs.

Relocation astrology is not about packing up and moving merely because I tell you "This appears to be your most favorable location." I'll encourage you to COUNT THE COSTS before you move. Are you ready for what will be a major life change? Each move I've ever made has required a settling in and adjustment period and I'm sure this will also be true for you.

Moving requires a lot of planning and thought before packing your things and going somewhere, doesn't it? Moving becomes even more complicated if you're moving overseas, although more and more Americans are retiring overseas.

You've moved now! Getting settled into your new area is only the first phase of many new things to deal with including a decision that may include purchasing a home, registering your vehicles, finding where schools are located, and it's so much easier if, when you move, you already have a job lined up, unless you're retired. If retired, how much are you going to miss seeing your children or grandchildren? Some handle this issue better than others.

Do you use Astrocartography or Vedic Relocation astrology in your work? I notice lots of people like to have their Astrocartography chart done.

I know both systems but over the years I've incorporated the best techniques I've come across. I rely on my intuition and higher wisdom though when looking at a difficult chart. That's the only way to break through what seems like insurmountable obstacle in a person's astrology reading.

Do you ever get the sense people want you to make the decision about what they do for them?

The other day a woman said to me, "I want you to send us to a place where my husband doesn't do drugs any more." I pleasantly but firmly had to tell her "Your husband makes his own choices in life. I refuse to be responsible for whether your marriage does or does not work."

As a relocation astrologer I'll tell you that our lives, no matter where we live, become what we determine to make of them. The wonderfulness of an area is dependent on you and how you treat others as much as how they treat you. Wherever you go, there you are.

A new location, however, may provide you with a new lease on life. Maybe it is time, after all these years, to get out of Dodge City and find a place you appreciate and where you are appreciated.

Do you find that some people are set in their ways and resist any suggestions, which is what they are, suggestions only, that you see as a good location to in their chart.

When you call me for a relocation astrology session I'll use everything I know to help you find your best place or city. I've had a handful of clients who, after I searched and searched for days finding a match for them based on the movement of their natal or birth chart would say, "I don't like that place." "My children won't like it." My husband says the people in Tucson aren't friendly." I've heard people make judgments about places they've never been to, a case of being too opinionated about areas they know nothing about.

It's odd to hear a relocation astrologer admit this but there have been a handful of people I've done astrology charts for and there is NO one best place for them to live and I've told them that. Maybe there's a second or third best place where they would have a very good life, so just know I'll be honest with you about my findings.

If I tell you Santa Barbara looks favorable based on your natal or birth chart and you say, "Not Santa Barbara," or "Oh no, not Austin, Texas," then, after I've pointed out all your best geographical areas I'll say "Use your intuition then. There are no other places I know to send you."

Why do you think relocation astrology is a valuable tool, even though you've told me on other occasions that it is only one of many tools that might be helpful to a person looking for that next place to call home?

Even though I'm a little more expensive than some other astrologers, I've been unbelievably busy since starting Astro-Earth-Relocation five years ago, so I don't solicit or advertise for clients any more.

Reputation is everything?

It helps, but you only build a reputation by doing great work for your clients. Most of my business is now word-of-mouth recommendations from former clients.

Do you tell people they must move to find success or love, make money, or be happy?

No. Nor do I tell them they have to make this move by such and such date. I do tell my clients to ask themselves, "What would happen if you were happy now and didn't move at all? Would that disappoint you?" Some people are restless for change. That's not a good reason move. Happiness is an inside job; you have to provide your own inner cabin pressure no matter where you live.

Does Anyone Except the Astrologer Ever Really Profit from having an Astrological Reading?

Most of us have heard about astrology and astrological readings. Some have experienced having one or more done. But "What's it all about, Alfie?"

We can talk to people who don't mow the lawn without consulting their astrologer first and to those at the other end of the spectrum who firmly declare that they do not believe in astrology. What lies in between?

There is no doubt that the stars and other heavenly bodies were in a certain configuration at the exact moment we were born. It was certainly our "stamp" in creation but how could that affect our lives either minimally or dramatically? Well, some see astrology as a predictable climate of possibilities and probabilities. To those who do, it makes no difference if you believe in it or not. They will tell you that it's like saying you don't believe in gravity as you step out a window of a twenty-second story building. So what? The inevitable does not care about your beliefs or lack thereof.

For those who tread the middle of the road and seek astrological readings only occasionally, for either entertainment or a chance of a clearer look at whys of life, selecting an astrologer can be quite an adventure. They come in all shapes and sizes. That's because the nature of their work is interpretative. There are very few frames of reference, if any, that can't be adapted to an astrological chart...all modes of religion and spirituality, all sides of psychology...and every aspect of materialism. The charts are not often done by hand any more, which was once a time-consuming and expensive process. These days they pop readily out of a well-educated computer. Then the fun begins.

You may go to your reading with some specific questions about the past present and/or future or you may just want your natal (birth) chart read. Many people ask for a reading about the coming year, only...to get an overview of what's ahead in the hopes of dealing with it wisely and well.

It's also possible to take a course or courses in astrology in a classroom or online for the purpose of either understanding your own chart better or of interpreting charts for others. Again, whoever prepares and presents the class will put their spin on interpretation, so you need to seriously investigate the work of your proposed teacher.

For many people, reading the charts of the rich and famous is a real trip, since we all know, after the fact, the bends and turns in their chosen paths in life. It can be fun to look up readings on your favorite scientist, movie star, evangelist or explorer...but remember that one astrologer's interpretation can differ from another's even though they were armed with the same basic data. It can be even more entertaining to obtain several readings on the natal chart on your particular hero or nemesis for comparison of diverse opinions.

Certainly not everyone needs to get into this subject...much less have even one astrological reading. Life goes on, whether it is interpreted and predicted or just happens without questioning it's capricious twists and turns. What is needed is the willingness to not form an opinion about astrology if we don't want to investigate it...to "not know what we don't know". A good rule, for that matter, whatever the subject.

Approaching the Astrologer - Part 3 of 3

There are numerous other technicalities that the astrologer would go through before he arrives at a mature analysis to make a prediction. But the above are the most basic. You put in a small attempt to understand the above then you’re on your way to having a better conversation with your astrologer. And every good astrologer loves to talk technical with his clients because he would be more motivated to show his astrological reasoning and that he’s doing a good piece of astrological work. Otherwise he would be blamed for just being psychic (or even pretending) and not doing real astrological work.

When you make use of astrologers you need to know that not everything is a prediction. Sometimes it might be an “explanation” sometimes a “description” and yes sometimes a “prediction”. Sometimes it involves dates sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes the astrologer can be very precise because several symbols appear to concur and converge at a specific date (like several separate symbols telling the same story about a specific event). Whereas sometimes it might not be that easy for him to ascertain a specific “moment in time” because of the divergent symbols involved in the “coming event” he should be stating.

If an astrologer has never dealt with you before or if he doesn’t know your context then he would normally begin with an overview of an aspect of your interest. For instance assume you provide the astrologer only your birth date time and place together with your name and sex. Nothing else. And you ask a question like “Tell me about my finances.” Unless he uses horary techniques in which case you should know that this is not an astrologer’s first choice of tools (most astrologers wouldn’t want to use that part of their arsenal flippantly) he would prefer to try to answer your question from your personal birth horoscope. But not knowing your “context” he would start off with an overview. He would then give you an honest analysis of what your birth chart would have to say about your “general financial experience in life”. However if you were to “offer you context” then just ask a brief but specific question. This can be as simple as “I’m thinking of buying a car but I really don’t know. So what does my chart say?”

Try not to “test” the astrologer. Especially if you think you want to prove that astrology doesn’t work. You won’t get to prove or disprove anything by dealing with one humble astrologer. For all you know the one you’re dealing with might not had studied astrology sufficiently himself.

Many astrologers started off with the wrong footing; like many other professionals in many other fields. In their passion for the glamour of being in a certain profession or position, they end up just ‘getting into a job’. They stop their studies, they close themselves to new realizations and developments, and their motivation fizzles off. There are good astrologers, and there are not-so-good astrologers, like in almost every other profession. If you have come across a medical doctor with lousy bedside manners, dispensing less than average medical advice than what you expected from a professional, it doesn’t mean the whole medical profession is populated by the same personality nor that medicine is fraudulent. It is the same with astrology and the astrologer.

What is important is for people to be responsible for their own open-ness and gullibility. Don’t accept or reject anything just because someone else said so. Dare to trust, dare to take risks. In this manner, you are liberated to do what you want and seek advice from anywhere you can. After all, opinions from other professionals are just that; opinions. And you need varied opinions to consider in order for you to make your own mature judgment over things you need to decide.

Try to know more of your personal chart always. As you do this you will get to see a certain “logic” to astrology and will get a feel of how things are being “read”. Make friends with your astrologer friend and keep on asking things about your personal life events and its relationship with your personal chart. This doesn’t mean that you live by astrology by doing this but you would be exploring a model that supposedly deals with your personal “blueprint”. Ask different astrologers about the same issues in your chart and see what others have to say. Do they concur? If not probe and ask why they said things differently. Before long you will find yourself not just knowing better astrology but even knowing more about yourself.

There is one other way whereby you don’t need to give your birth particulars and that would be when you use the services of a “horary” astrologer. Obviously this is a professional astrologer who is adept at using a special branch of astrology called Horary Astrology. That’s where you ask a very specific question and you get a very specific answer to that question on the spot. But that horoscope cannot be used for anything else. But even these professional astrologers report that their horary techniques are used best when used in conjunction with a reliable birth chart.

Going further back now remember your personal sign that you normally refer to in the news and magazines and normally refer to yourself as? Well really it’s not very personal. What you’ve always called your personal sign is what astrologers call your Sun Sign. No real astrologer uses this. But this is what people generally use and refer to at party chats. It’s anything but personal. The sun occupies a zodiacal sign for a whole month. So what this kind of sun sign astrology says is if the sidereal sun occupies the general zodiac sign Capricorn between 15 January and 15 February and you were born anywhere between those dates just like a few million other people then you are all Capricorn people. This is technically true. But what is wrong is to think that you and your millions of other Capricorn siblings all behave precisely like how a Capricorn should and should exhibit similar Capricorn attributes and go through the typical life experiences that a Capricorn should. It is this basic assumption that has put real astrology to shame. The popularity of this uneducated assumption is the continued cause of the “educated” people’s general argument against astrology. The sun and moon are luminaries but also included together with some other factors which are not planets but considered significant in the astrological scheme of things; such as the asteroids moon’s nodes and some other sensitive “points” as a result of unique astrological formula.

Your M/C I/C and your Descendant

These your Medium Coeli Idium Coeli Descendant and together with your Ascendant earlier form the crucial “angles” that astrologers find to be very important in every horoscope.

The Progressions

These are astrological (not astronomical) techniques that “project” your zodiac to certain ages in life and form part of the astrologer’s “predictive” inventory.

The Transits

These are the “real” or actual positions of the physical planets for any given time. If the astrologer says something like “Transiting Pluto is going to hit your natal Mars next year…” then it means that the physically moving Pluto will be positioning itself to settle on the exact degree in the zodiac where Mars was during your birth. And of course that would trigger off a certain “prediction”.

And a crucial thing you need to know is that there are basically two schools of astrology; the sidereal and the tropical. However all of the above still apply to both schools. The school that is normally used in the west is typically tropical while the one used in the east is typically sidereal. The former deals a lot with how character breeds destiny and how self-knowledge and astrological foresight can offer some amount to changing a destiny that you don’t like. The latter deals a lot with what they think is a destiny that is almost absolute and unchangeable as if written by some gods for you. This of course is a simplistic description. Good modern astrology students make it a point to learn the good essentials of all systems available.

There is a simple reason why most people generally cannot tell the difference between astrology, palmistry and psychic services. They never had the opportunity to be educated in it. Most people just never see themselves trying to read up in order to know more about these subjects. So they never get the best of astrology or the astrologers. Thus people don’t know enough to talk about astrology yet they can’t stop NOT talking about what little they know about it. Well no more. By the time you go through this article, you should be in a better position to relate to an astrologer more effectively.

To begin with, every astrologer needs to have the following minimum data: your sex at birth date birth time and birth place. Any astrologer doing your birth chart without these would not be doing astrology. It’s just the basics. It’s astrology. With palmistry you offer your palm. With astrology you offer your birth particulars. If your astrologer doesn’t ask for them then he might be using some other model for his predictions but it won’t be astrology. He might even be pretending. Also the sad part is if you don’t have this data then don’t go to astrologers. Go to a psychic or some other diviner using other models for their prediction. So do you have your birth data? Check this out first before you even search for an astrologer. And you should have them as reliable as possible because the honest astrologer’s work will only be as reliable as the data that you provide him to work with.

The basic idea of needing your birth particulars is because he needs to calculate the astronomical positions for the time that you were born. How did the galaxy look like? That is what the horoscope is about. So the astrologer uses the birth particulars so that he is able to see the configuration of the planets in the zodiac during the precise moment of birth. Astrology uses the picture of the galaxy at your moment of birth as its model to make predictions. So what do you want to do? You want your birth particulars (especially your birth time) as correctly possible.

Now one of the most riveting things in any personal horoscope is what we call the Ascendant. This is the precise degree in the chart that is the “moment of physical birth” based on the time and place of birth you provide. So aside from accurate birth time you want to give the accurate place of birth as well. So the place of birth should be as accurate as possible as well. Knowing the town will do. But if the town is not on the map then give the closest town on the map in order for the astrologer to obtain the latitude and longitude of the birth place. That’s why he needs to know the town in the first place. But if you can give him the latitude and longitude of your birth place straight away he won’t complain.

What happens if you don’t even know your birth date? Then really don’t go to an astrologer unless you’re ready to go a lengthy process called Birth Rectification. That might take hours if not weeks plus a lot of interaction with you to confirm your most likely chart. What the diligent astrologer (difficult to find them for free) would have to do is to keep on fine-tuning some of your horoscopic positions. He would probably start by placing your ascendant somewhere he thinks relevant and with that he’d try to read the chart as a whole and see if it fits with your life events. If it doesn’t or he thinks it’s not conclusive enough he’d continue adjusting the chart with other “what if” positions. This part of the work is so specialized that some astrologers offer this service only to other professional astrologers who need this work done for their very important clients.

Astrology Aspects: Out of Sign Conjunctions

The astrological zodiac is arranged in such a way that as we move from one sign to another all of the important characteristics of the sign change in dramatic ways. This is true particularly when we look at the sign qualities, - their polarities, modes and elements.

Thus, the polarities of masculine and feminine, the modes of cardinal, fixed and mutable, and also the elements of fire, earth, air and water, never repeat themselves in successive signs. While this is not a problem in most areas of astrology, and in fact helps us to more clearly understand the boundaries as we move from one sign to another, it does come into play quite dramatically, when we think of out of sign aspects.

We are accustomed to seeing conjunctions for example, (two planets within nine degrees of each other) usually within the same zodiac sign. As such, the interpretation of such an aspect is easily arrived at inasmuch as each planet cooperatively enhances the other with the strength of the sign they share.

What happens, however, when we see a very high degree planet in one sign forming a conjunction with a very low degree planet in the following sign. Thus a high degree planet in Aries could form an out of sign conjunction with a low degree planet in Taurus.

For one thing, because the energies of both planets are being modified in different ways because of the two different signs they are in, the individual feels a complexity quite different than conjunctions that occur within the same sign.

While the planets still work cooperatively because they are a conjunction, the individual has to work a little harder to combine the substance of what these two planets are offering. In the example we mentioned of Aries and Taurus, the person would have to learn to combine the fiery, masculine, cardinality of Aries with the earthy, feminine, fixed qualities of Taurus.

Two factors come into this that are very important. First, the outermost planet (the larger, slower moving planet) holds influence over the innermost planet. This happens because the outermost planet always has a slower transit and progression effect, often staying in the same sign for years at a time, thus weighing more on the individual with important life lessons that have to be learned.

If we saw a Saturn in Aries forming a conjunction with Mercury in Pisces. The fiery,cardinal, masculine qualities of Aries working on the planet Saturn would hold influence over the watery, mutable, feminine qualities of Pisces modifying Mercury.

Breaking this down to understandable language, the individuals need (Saturn), to break barriers and experience new beginnings (fiery cardinal and masculine qualities of Aries) that seem to promise a practical outcome would be helpful in positively influencing the timidity of the Pisces Mercury so that its changeable mutability, and watery feminine qualities could find purpose in its creative expression.

It takes a little more to understand these out of sign conjunctions, because they seem to always involve discordant energies that a lazy individual would rather not deal with. However, they offer unthought of possibilities for the person to transcend the mundane.

There is a second factor in these very special conjunctions that comes from the fact that a high degree planet is always more evolved than a low degree planet. Thus, the planet near the end of the sign, seems to hold within it, more knowledge and perhaps soul experiences (maybe even coming from past lives) that the low degree of the planet in the next sign that it is conjunct with cannot even imagine by itself. The low degree planet is often thought of as being more primitive, and basic, in earlier lifetime stages of development than the higher degree planet.

This really gets interesting when we study both of these factors together. If the higher degree planet is Saturn (the planet of age and wisdom and karmic lessons), and the lower degree planet is Mercury (the planet of thought and expression) then it can easily be concluded that the Saturn is influencing the Mercury towards sober, mature thought. But, what happens when these planets show up the other way around?

If Mars is in a higher degree than Saturn as they form a conjunction, then it has to be concluded that Mars is more evolved and the individual's propensity towards action is more knowing than their sense of practicality and planning. Combine these factors with the Sign qualities of polarity, mode and element of both planets, and there you have it.

Remember also, that most of the time, transits will effect the higher degree planet first (as it is in the earlier of the two signs) thus giving the individual time to get in touch with all they have learned in past lives and accumulated in their soul in order to have enough wisdom to deal with the transit in the best way possible as it completes itself over both planets. This has the same significance in the sky as the prime meridian on the Earth's globe, i.e. it is the zero point of a 360 degree arc which is used to give a location for any object in the sky known as right ascension. In the same way as longitude (and latitude) give a position on the Earth.

Sidereal astrologers add a correction to this point to allow for the precession of the equinoxes. They do this so that the zodiacal signs used in their astrology coincide with the constellations of stars to which they refer. This correction is called the ayanamsa and different sidereal astrologers use different precise values. This value is usually around 24 degrees at the present time and is constantly increasing as the equinoxes precess.

About 2,000 years ago, the two zodiacs were in approximate agreement and the vernal equinox fell at the start of the constellation Aries. Sidereal astrologers see the failure of most Western astrologers to relate their work to the actual heavens which they interpret as an opportunity for critics of astrology to denigrate the subject.

Whenever people talk about astrology the question of "a belief" arises. It's as if the human mindset instinctively associates astrology with "a belief."

Whenever people ask me if I believe in astrology, I respond to the question with another question: "What is a belief?" and I give them my answer right away.

A belief is everything you have not touched, not seen, not heard, not smelled, everything you have not lived and not experienced, everything that has not become part of your own life and existence and that has not become part of your own reality.

It's everything beyond your imagination, coming from another dimension you have not experienced yet, you are not aware of (yet) but that, nevertheless, exists somewhere for the ones who have experienced, researched or lived it.

In the world of the elephant, goldfish don't exist, even if they do exist in our own (human) reality. They are just part of another reality that we, human beings are able to live and experience. But not the elephants.

It's so difficult for so many people to live in reality, to be aware of other dimensions. Instead of judging and questioning who's right or wrong, they would better try to know more about it, the pros and the cons, the way it works or does not work and when it works or does not.

THAT would bring awareness to another dimension and bring far more insight. It would raise human consciousness; something our world needs so deeply.

According to the ancient Chinese, the Monkey, Rat and Dragon form a compatible set. They have characteristics that make them more compatible with each other. The other compatible sets are the Snake, Rooster and Ox; the Pig, Rabbit and Goat and the Tiger, Horse and Dog. If you check the year of birth you notice that they are four years apart. For example those born in 1964 are Rats, 1968 are Dragons and 1972 are Monkeys!

The Rat on the other hand is supposedly less compatible than the Horse. They form an incompatible set. The other incompatible sets are between Ox and Goat, Tiger and Monkey, Rabbit and Rooster, Dragon and Dog and between the Snake and Pig. In practice our character is also heavily influenced by the month, day and hour of birth which is not taken into consideration in the above examples. Therefore it is entirely possible for a Rat person to display characteristics of other animals (influences from the month, day and hour of birth)!

Astrology's Unique House to House System

One of the things I really love about Astrology is how it puts together the puzzle pieces of life. Nowhere is this more clear than in the House to House method of understanding the zodiac chart. In this system, we are able to find the effects of how each house works by imagining it as the first house or Ascendant. Then we count each succeeding house from this.

In other words, to solve a particular problem, we go to the house symbolizing the problem and move it to the Ascendant. The house following this house becomes the second house symbolizing the individual's values concerning the matters of the house in question. The next house would be the third house in relation to the problem house, or what the individual thinks, learns and communicates about the 'problem' house in question. In this way, each house in the horoscope has twelve different perspectives on how any of the matters it concerns can be approached.

To know about a person's child we would look to their Fifth House. Their Sixth House, would be the Second House from the Fifth and would indicate the value systems of their child. To know how the child gets along with others, we can look at the Eleventh House (which rules friendship) from the Fifth House. This would be the individual's Fourth House. The sign on the cusp of the house we arrive at, as well as planets in it or aspects to it, will complete the story.

Suppose a Gemini rising individual builds a library of crosswords, romance novels and astrology books. The third house of lower mind describes the crosswords (Leo). Astrology: Valid Science or Controversial Sham?

Over the last century, little else seems to have generated as much controversy as the belief in and practice of astrology. Not only have the majority of the world's religions claimed that it is 'evil' and was spawned by the devil, but the scientific community has claimed that it is - at best - a superstition; at worst it is said to be inaccurate and those who offer these services, little more than charlatans.

It's understandable that most laypersons don't and can't understand the intricate nuances of astrology. However, it's infuriating - especially from an astrologer's point of view - when those who actually know little or nothing about it attempt to discredit it.

Generally, these individuals are merely mimicking what they've heard others say. While it's true that many of those debunkers are 'scientists,' we need to keep in mind that even scientists can be and often have been wrong.

As most of us are no doubt aware, Mankind does not have all the answers, which is one reason why academic textbooks are constantly being revised. A good example is Einstein and his Theory of Relativity, which is even now being disproved by the String/Super String/M Theory. Scientists now realize that the laws that govern the 'universe' as we know it may be more localized than we, at first, believed. There may be no law of gravity (for instance) in another part of our universe. In fact, recent research indicates that this very well may be the case.

Not only that, but according to the new physics, the fact that there are other dimensions -- multiverses -- which operate on different 'laws' should be enough to indicate that there's a very real possibility that astrology works off of one of these same principles.

What's misleading about all the so-called 'studies' that have been conducted on astrology and its validity or lack thereof, is that the 'scientists' who have conducted the studies focus mainly on one aspect: Sun Sign astrology. The fact is, there is so much more to an individual's birth chart than just the Sun Sign.

Over the last one hundred years or so only one or two studies have, in reality, been conducted using a minimal number of control subjects and have given precious little source information which would prove beyond the proverbial shadow of a doubt that astrology is not efficacious.

I've been an astrologer for over 25 years, and during that time I've been able to verify its accuracy through data collection and comparison of the numerous astrological traits, characteristics and propensities of the various zodiac signs.

Further, I am currently back in college in order to obtain a degree in counseling psychology and have encountered this same prejudice even with psychologists and other scientists and academicians. While they espouse following empirical methods, they rarely follow these came criteria themselves. In fact, their dialogue with their students actually runs something like this:

STUDENT: Why does science accept electricity without knowing what it is, professor?

PROFESSOR: Because we have proved by its demonstrable effects that it exists, my boy.

STUDENT: Science also accepts magnetism without knowing exactly what it is, doesn't it, professor?

PROFESSOR: Yes, although we do not know whether it is force, fluid or quality - we have proved it by its demonstrable effects.

STUDENT: And Life itself, professor - science says it doesn't know its cause, but it recognizes its existence, doesn't it?

PROFESSOR: Of course! Anything that has a demonstrable effect must be accepted.

STUDENT: Then the demonstrable effects of astrology are entitled to serious scientific consideration, aren't they professor?

PROFESSOR: Certainly not! Science will not accept astrology on the basis of mere demonstrable effects!

A bit contradictory, wouldn't you say? The truth is, there are demonstrable effects with astrology, just as there are with electricity, magnetism and life -- all intangible substances we can not see with our physical eyes, and yet whose 'demonstrable effects' we can see, and which we know are there.

Another glaring red flag is that none of the so-called studies were conducted by anyone who knows enough about astrology to make a qualified statement as to its validity. Additionally, there are numerous forms of astrology. It is so detailed and complex that it takes an astrologer years (if ever!) to master any one form.

However, since there have been only 'two' studies which debunk astrology, I will reference 'two' different scientific sources which have proven its efficacy: 1) the astronomer Percy Seymour, one of Britain's leading astronomers, wrote of its validity in his book, Astrology, the Evidence of Science. Another source is the voluminous studies of the French psychologist, Michel Gauquelin. Two more excellent sources of validating data come from Astro Databank and from Avalon School of Astrology, among others.

But do the scientists who have attempted to disprove astrology reference the validating studies? Of course not. Because if they did it would disprove their own blather.

Because of this, I am currently working on what may well turn out to be a major psychology paper (possibly my dissertation) which will prove the efficacy, and thus, the validity of astrology.

And just for the record, as far as Sun Sign astrology is concerned, it's not that it's not accurate; the problem is that only one planet (for simplicity, the sun is considered a planet in astrology) is used, in this case the Sun. However, our natal charts include all the planets in the solar system, including the Moon and several asteroids. Therefore, when calculating a chart, much more is taken into consideration than just the Sun. The fact is, our Rising Sign or Ascendant and our Moon sign can significantly modify or offset the effects of the Sun sign, as can the signs in which our Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto and Chiron may fall.

If one is going to argue about the pros and/or cons of an issue, at least study it so that you do, indeed, know whereof you speak.

There has been a number of times when clients ask me why do I use Western Astrology in love compatibility. Is western astrology really accurate? Some tell me it's not. But based on personal experience, there is some truth in it.

What are the ways of analysing compatibility using Western Astrology? There may be more, but I know of 3 methods of doing it. You will learn about each method as you go along...

The first and most common method is by comparing the signs of the couple. The compatibility is based on whether the signs belong to the same element.

Let me list them out for you...

Aries,Leo and Sagittarius are FIRE signs.

Taurus,Virgo and Capricorn are EARTH signs.

Gemini,Libra and Aquarius are AIR signs.

Cancer,Scorpio and Pisces are WATER signs.

For example,if you are born under Aries and you partner is a Leo or Sagittarius, then you are considered very compatible. The most compatible are those from the same element signs as you. The next choice are those who belong to the same element as the sign opposite to you.

Let's use Aries as another example. The opposite of Aries is Libra. Libra is an AIR sign. Therefore the next compatible signs for Aries other than the FIRE signs are the AIR signs.

This method is not very accurate as it's too general. But it gives you a rough gage and it's very easy to use.

Now for the second method...

The second method is a little more complicated. But it's far more accurate. This method is still considered easy. You just need to have a Moon Sign Chart with you.

The first method involves the SUN SIGN only. This method involves the MOON SIGN as well.

Have you ever came across this scenario? You know two people who are born under the same sign. But their character and personalities are world's apart? Then you start wondering why...

The reason for this is because their MOON SIGN is different. The MOON SIGN is like a secondary personality. An Aries person may not behave like one. He may not be aggressive or determined or showy because he is under the influence of his MOON SIGN. Which in this case may be a more retiring one.

How do you analyse compatibility using this 2nd method? It's simple.

Step 1: You need both parties' SUN SIGNS and MOON SIGNS. (You can get the MOON SIGNS from astrology books. They have a table which shows the sign that the moon is at during the day you are born. It differs from year to year.)

Step 2: Compare both SUN SIGNS.

Step 3: Compare both MOON SIGNS.

Step 4: Cross over and compare SUN SIGN with MOON SIGN and the other way round.

Step 5: The minimum criteria is to have at least 2 matches in the 4 comparisons. (i.e. The signs must belong to the same element group or the next compatible group)

For example:The guy's SUN SIGN is Virgo,MOON SIGN is Cancer. The gal's SUN SIGN is Cancer, MOON SIGN is Libra. There is a common sign here. Plus Virgo and Cancer are also compatible. Although there is an AIR SIGN, Libra which is not so compatible with Earth and Water signs, it's still negligible.

This is the method I use when doing Western Astrology Love Compatibility.

Now for the 3rd method. This method is really complex. It's only for the professionals. I believe it can be mastered, just that it will take some time.

For this 3rd method,you need a very good ASTROLOGY BOOK which will teach you everything from ground up. Because you need to draw out the birth charts for each individual.

Drawing out the birth chart involves knowing when will each planet land in each of the different houses in the chart. By knowing which planet is in which house, you are able to tell what happens during each phase of this individual's life.

This is the most accurate method to analyse love compatibility. However it is very tedious and you need a lot of concentration. But if you are very interested in mastering astrology, I recommend that you learn and use this method.

The etymology of astrology is found in the Greek ?astrologia,? and is the amalgamation of two Greek words - astron, which means star; and logos, which means study. Astrology simply means studying the stars. Astrology has been known to the peoples of the ancient world for more than 5,000 years, and had been used to study how the celestial bodies affect the events, and the lives of people, on Earth. Tradition has it that astrology originated in ancient Babylon and ancient Mesopotamia before 2000 BC. From here, the system of studying the sun, moon, stars, and the planets, and their affect on Earth reached Greece around 2400 years ago, 400 years before the birth of Christ. Then, through Alexander?s conquests, the science spread to Egypt, the Middle East, and to India.

According to a different school of thought, astrology was already prevalent in India, and this form of astrology ? known as Vedic Astrology ? dates back to 6000 years.

The Different Astrological Traditions

There are many different traditions of astrology, some similar, and some based on different principles. Of the many different traditions, some are: Chinese astrology; Jyotish or Indian (Vedic) astrology; Babylonian astrology; Kabbalistic astrology; Tibetan astrology; Mayan astrology; Celtic astrology; and the Modern Western astrology.

These traditions are, in no way, exhaustive. Of these, the three major traditions used by modern astrologers are:

? The Chinese astrology
? Jyotish or Indian (Vedic) astrology, and
? The Modern Western astrology

Vedic astrology and the Modern Western astrology follow the horoscopic system, where there is a casting of a horoscope. A horoscope is an astrological chart. The Indian (Vedic) astrology is Sidereal - where the zodiac is aligned with 27 constellations, or fixed star groups. How It Works

We are quite used to the type of astrological readings we see in our newspapers every morning. This is the sun sign astrology, and is astrology in its simplest form. Only the date of your birth is required, and you get very limited results through this system. Serious practitioners of astrology do not use this system.

Astrology Forecast for May 2007 - General Tendencies for All Sun Signs

My goodness, the planets are going to be busy this month. We are going to be under some kind of major planetary influence almost every day. We will get a short reprieve towards the middle of the month, and then things will start up again, all the way through the Blue Moon on May 31.

The Month begins with the Scorpio Full Moon on May 2, and we may be extra sensitive around that time. Try not to let other's negative feelings get to you, and my best advice is stay close to your "happy friends." Mercury will be beginning a fight with Saturn and Neptune over the weekend of Cinco de Mayo, and Venus and Pluto will be arguing. But, Jupiter and Saturn will be at the peak of their harmonic angle. What this means, is Mercury, the god of communication and transportation, may bring some confusion and even criticism. We may get lost, or lose our sense of direction. We may find ourselves putting up with verbal abuse, or addicts, or both. And, some of us may get swindled or busted. If it sounds too good to be true, on this weekend, it is. Venus rules relationships and money, and Pluto can bring up deep issues. There may be power struggles or jealousy crop up in relationships. There is also a potential for theft, because Pluto rules the criminal. But, Jupiter and Saturn will keep business going well, and any kind of investments we make will probably pay off .

Venus will enter home loving Cancer on May 8, and we will have a couple of minor planetary influences motivating us to try something new, and to put some of our thoughts into action. But, there is also a strong probability that we will be dealing with financial losses, or our energy will be low. Also, Jupiter and Uranus will be coming to their peak, and that means we may go off onto some tangents that are completely unrealistic through May 10. Mercury will enter his home sign of Gemini on May 11. This will give those of us with dominate Gemini in our charts a boost, and the rest of us may just be ready to talk. But, the weekend of May 12 and 13 brings more problems (just in time for Mothers' Day). The Sun will be arguing with Neptune, and that's going to bring out addictions. Our judgment will be poor, so no major life changing decisions this weekend. Also, Mars and Pluto will be in a major battle. Mars is our energy and our sex drive, and when Pluto is negatively aspected, the nuclear weapons may come out. (I mean that figuratively. Not forecasting any global wars.) There is a very strong potential for fights, and many will lose their tempers. With our addictions coming up, and with a tendency to lose our tempers, it is very likely there will be some bar brawls. Try to practice moderation with Mom, no matter how much she bitches.

After Mothers' Day, we will get a little reprieve. The planets will be fairly quiet for the next few days. The New Moon in Taurus will be on May 16, but all should remain calm until Saturday, May 19. Over the weekend, Mercury will be fighting with Jupiter and Uranus, and he will be winking at Saturn. We won't be thinking in a practical manner, and some people will be just plain sarcastic. But, if we can keep our heads level, there may be an opportunity to get ahead.

The Sun will enter Gemini on May 21, and the Moon enters Leo. We may be ready to play on this day, and competitive type games will go well. On May 22 and 23, we will be feeling the effects of Mercury singing with Neptune as Neptune turns retrograde. We may find ourselves feeling very creative, but if we are not careful all the creativity may get focused into a negative part of our lives. An example would be that we are wishing to express our love for someone, but we get drunk before we tell them. Neptune will be at retrograde station on May 24, and Venus and Uranus will be singing their own song. It is very likely we will be ready for something different, and with the Sun and Mercury in Gemini, we may just want two. Extra marital affairs are likely, but if we can focus the energy correctly, we may create something beautiful.

Mercury will be upset with Pluto as our Memorial Day Weekend begins on May 26. People could be rather outspoken or impulsive. There is also a strong tendency for quarrels. Mercury will enter domestic Cancer on the evening of Memorial Day, May 28, and we will be ready to come back to reality. We have a special Blue Moon on May 31, and we may be ready to let go of some of the addictions and emotional crap we have been carrying around all month. It will be an excellent day to look ahead.

To Believe or Not To Believe? (Predicting the Past)

It all boils down to this one question. Fortune-telling, tarot card reading, astrology, horoscopes, numerology. They all ask us to invest in them something from inside ourselves: total faith and belief, because the slightest doubt will cancel everything out.

And in this world of ours where almost everything has a monetary equivalent, belief is a free luxury. It is easy to believe. It's not always to see is to believe. Sometimes, somethings must be believed to be seen. It's easy to believe; you just open your mind.

The hard part is standing by our beliefs and making them our own, and breathing life on them, till we are one and the same.

To believe doesn't mean resignation to fate. It doesn't mean just because we are Scorpios, or Arians, or Saggitarians, we must comply with whatever characteristics our star signs are supposed to carry. To believe is to explore what else is beyond. Stretch our limits, be more than just what has been allotted to us.

Humans are creatures who like to revel in their chosen beliefs. It's what separates us from animals: choice. We choose our beliefs, We hide our doubts. We obsess about the future.

Why do we want to know the future?

Humans are a curious species not contented with living in the present. We are time-travelers, gripped by our past, fascinated by the future. We want to make things right and prevent those that would go wrong.

If a planet cannot be integrated with the rest of the horoscope, then the individual feels a lack of everything the planet's energies symbolize.

For example, an unaspected Venus could suggest that the individual seems to have no say or control over the direction their love life takes. An unaspected Saturn could make it difficult for a person to take charge of organizing their plans for life in practical ways. Whatever the planet is, the individual tends to lack having any say in the outcome of events in that area of life.

Now we have to ask ourselves, what purpose is there in this? We ask this, because if we know the universe at all, we understand that everything has a purpose and meaning, even if some things seem obscure.

From a Karmic point of view, we could infer that the unaspected planet is something the individual has not yet earned mastery enough with that they can trust their own decisions in this area of life. We might even ask if the individual is being denied the use of a planet as some kind of karmic retribution or punishment?
