The Elements In Astrology

Groups of signs in astrology share certain characteristics that are classified according to four earthly elements - fire, air, water and earth. It helps explain why some signs are more compatible than others.

The Fire signs are Aries (March 21 to April 19), Leo (July 23 to August 22) and Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21). Fire people are leaders, dynamic. They light up everything around them. Because Fire needs Air to exist, Fire signs are most compatible with the Air signs. Water is anathema to Fire and a Water person could try to dampen the dynamism and enthusiasm that defines Fire.

The Air signs are Aquarius (January 20 to February 18), Gemini (May 21 to June 21) and Libra (September 23 - October 22). These are the idea signs, the air that breathes a spark into a flame. They can't be tied down. They require freedom of movement and thought.

The water signs of Cancer (June 22 to July22), Scorpio (October 23 to November 21) and Pisces (February 19 to March 20) are characterized by the phrase still waters run deep. They're emotional and sensitive, given to deep thoughts and conversations. Just as water can blur an image or hide secrets within its depths, so do Water signs have secretive emotions and abilities. The Water signs are most compatible with Earth signs.

The Earth signs are Taurus (April 20 - May 20), Virgo (August 23 to September 22) and Capricorn (December 22 to January 19). They are stable and consistent. While not as compassionate as the water signs, they are nonetheless nurturing. They can be rigid (stick in the mud) and easily stuck in routines. They are most compatible with Water signs, as Water is necessary for the Earth to properly nurture growing things. Earth helps Water contain itself, which is often necessary for survival on the planet.

Astrology - A Scientific Outlook

From time immemorial, the concept that celestial bodies in the sky can provide a map of the future has fascinated mankind. Mankind?s romance with Astrology ranges from a casual glance at the newspaper?s zodiac signs section, to making important decisions in life such as matrimonial, financial and even medical on the advice of astrologers. It is known that some heads of state too have consulted astrologers to help make decisions that could influence the course of history.
So what is the accuracy of Astrology when used as a tool to predict the future or for decision making? Spiritual Science Research Foundation (SSRF) has used spiritual research methodologies to assist in shedding light on this question along with providing a spiritual perspective to the accuracy of Astrology and the parameters that could affect it.
1. Astrology as a science
Astrology has been confirmed and reconfirmed based on observation, inference and conclusion just like modern sciences. However the use of intuition in the science of Astrology is only possible if the astrologer is of a high spiritual level.
2. Accuracy of Astrology
Maximum amount of accuracy that can be obtained on average in the below four applications of Astrology:

  • Predictive ? 30%
  • Diagnostic ? 27%
  • Basic human nature and compatibility between people ? 27%
  • Decision-making ? 5%

(To view the chart in detail and read the interpretation of the percentages, please click on the link at the end of the article and go to point 5.4.)
3. Factors influencing accuracy of Astrology
3.1. Depending on the tradition of Astrology used
There are various traditions used in Astrology. Each of them has varying methodologies. The following table (to view the table please click on the link at the end of the article and go to point 5.5.1) is a comparative chart of the accuracy able to be achieved by the more significant traditions obtained through spiritual research.
3. 2. Based on the spiritual level of the astrologer
Depending on the spiritual level of an astrologer results can vary in accuracy. An accuracy of 100 % can only be achieved by a Saint of a spiritual level of 90% and above and that too only if He wishes to know. (To view the chart in detail, please click on the link at the end of the article and go to point 5.5.2)
3. 3. Based on the person doing spiritual practice
The only way to overcome destiny, which Astrology attempts to view and predict, or be insulated from it, is to do spiritual practice. This is because destiny is a spiritual problem that can only be overcome by a spiritual remedy. However the effect of spiritual practice and religious rituals done to overcome a problem where the root cause is spiritual in nature is not reflected in the astrological chart. Hence an astrological reading does not reflect the spiritual practice undertaken by the person.
3.4. Based on the type of question asked to the astrologer
Accuracy also depends on the type of question asked to the astrologer. For example, someone may ask an astrologer whether to invest in one venture or the other. Another person may ask whether to get married to person A or person B. A better result of accuracy could have been achieved if the person asked whether to invest or not in the first place or whether to get married or not.
3. 5. According to the time of one?s birth
Mapping the horoscope as per the time of conception increases its accuracy.
Summary
  • The accuracy of a horoscope is directly dependent on the power of interpretation of an astrologer.
  • The power of interpretation and intuition can only be increased by spiritual practice.
  • People mostly turn to Astrology for some hope and to try bracing themselves for the destiny in store. In this current era 65% of our lives are destined. If we use the 35% of our free will to do spiritual practice we can overcome or be insulated from our destiny. Once one is at peace with one?s destiny and strong enough to calmly undergo it, one?s need for astrological assistance decreases and one lives a calmer and more content life.

What Is Tarot Astrology?

Tarot astrology is the system through which a reading of the cards in a tarot deck help you through troubled times by offering a reflection on your past, present and future. Tarot is closely associated with astrology as each card relates to a planet, element, or astrological sign.

Tarot cards are used for divination, often known as fortune telling. But, many psychologists have used them as well, feeling that the cards often make patients delve in to how they feel about themselves. This is done through the subconscious. For example, let?s say you know work is not going well, but you do not allow yourself to think about it. Getting a tarot card reading that shows you need to change occupations is not really telling your future so much as it is making you face what is really going on in your life.

A tarot card deck consists of 78 cards that fall into two distinctive parts. The first part is called the Major Arcana. This part of the deck has 22 cards, 21 suitless cards referred to as trumps and one card called The Fool. It is believed that these cards represent different stages of life that we go through. Many are recognizable such as the Magician (associated with the planet Mercury), the Lovers (associated with the astrological sign Gemini), and the Death card (associated with Scorpio).

The other 56 cards are in the Minor Arcana. Arcana is taken from the Latin word ?akanum,? meaning secret. The Minor Arcana is divided into four suits, just like regular playing cards. The four suits are the Cups, the Wands, the Swords, and the Pentacles. Each of these cards represents a certain element of the Earth and is associated with certain astrological signs. The Cups represent water and are associated most closely with Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. The Cups stand for emotions, spirituality, and the unconsciousness. The Wands represent fire and are associated with Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. The Wands stand for action, creativeness, and personal growth. The Swords represent air and are associated with Libra, Gemini, and Aquarius. The Swords stand for the mind, intelligence, and knowledge. The final suit, the Pentacles, represents earth itself and is associated with Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. The Pentacles stand for the physique, bodily experiences, and practicality. In addition to the four suits, there are also Court cards including the King, Queen, Prince, and Princess for each suit.

The Minor Arcana cards provide more details to the Major Arcana cards. The Major Arcana gives an individual direction and information about their personal life and emotional and mental state. The Minor Arcana cards offer additional guidance in areas such as relationships, activities, failures, and successes. The Major Arcana cards are seen as more spiritual while the Minor Arcana cards are seen as material.

Over the years, the interpretation of the cards has evolved. Modern decks of tarot cards are much more expressive that then earlier version, due in part to the pictures being more closely associated with their meaning. Tarot readers prize their cards and often will not let others touch them as they are viewed as sacred tools of their trade. Many card sets are often viewed as works of art because of the detailed pictures on each one.

Finding a psychic for a tarot reading is easy. If you are looking to visit a psychic in person, check in your local Yellow Pages under Psychic. If you live in a remote area or are leery of visiting a psychic in person, you can also get tarot card readings online. If you use your favorite Internet search engine to search on ?free tarot reading,? you will find many sites appear. If you are leery that free readings might not be as accurate as paid reading, you can also find online psychics who will charge to do a reading. Some psychics will base their charges on how many questions you wish to ask about the reading while some will just charge a flat fee for so many minutes.

Whether you get a tarot card reading online or in person, there are several things you should keep in mind. The tarot card reading should not scare you, but rather give you a better understanding of yourself. They will help you with not only what your future holds, but also what is presently going on in your life. You should leave the reading with a positive attitude and feeling enlightened.

Tarot Suits and Astrology

Tarot Suits and Astrology

The Tarot Deck is made up of 78 cards, and these are divided into two sections, the Major Arcana, and the Minor Arcana. But, you knew that right? What you might not be aware of is, that the cards have influences which are associated with astrology, mainly the elements. It would take hours for you to read the influence of each card in this article, so we will start small. Tarot cards are spilt up into suits, just like your lucky Poker deck. I will be referring to the Rider-Waite deck. It is the most widely known of the decks. The four suits are: Swords, Wands, Cups, and Pentacles. Each of these suits are associated with the four elements of Astrology. You know them well: Air, Fire, Earth, and Water.

If you are not familiar with the characteristics of the astrological elements, heres a quick rundown:

Fire: Positive, Assertive, Determined, Active

Air : Social, Intelligent, Doers, Communicators

Earth: Stable, Enduring, Structured, Introverted

Water: Passive, Receptive, Reactive, Intuitive

Back to the tarot. Each suit is associated with one of these elements, hence the overall tone or influence of that particular suit reflects the astrological element's characteristics. Still with me? Great. Here are the suits, and the element of which they are associated:

Suit of Wands: Fire Element

Suit of Swords: Air Element

Suit of Cups: Earth Element

Suit of Pentacles: Water Element

Now you can put two and two together. The Wands suit is one of action and motivation, and the Swords suit is one of Achieving, Socialization, and your Mental Thinking. Well, you get the idea. Next time we will meet the Royal Court of the Tarot suits, and their elemental connections to Astrology.

The Simple Complex of Astrology Signs Define Your Personality Traits

Astrology is an age old science that is still flourishing, probably at it's best. Although many people question astrology's recognition as a science, though a greater chunk of folks consider it a science. Astrology gives incredible insight into one's personality. Predictions and suggestions accorded by astrologer often turn out relevant to your life. Crucial determinant of your astrological fate happens to be your astrology sign. Your astrology sign is the sign accorded to the period of a year in which you were born. These astrological signs also give behavioral insights into your persona along with fortune telling.

Most of the people have this wrong perception that astrology is all about making predictions about your fate. It is in fact a totally wrong connotation. Astrology signs are meant to offer a detail on each and every aspect of your life in consonance with your birth chart detail.

In western astrology there are twelve astrology signs. These signs have been clubbed under four different elements such as earth, water, fire and air. Each of these elements is assigned with three zodiac signs. These elements possess their distinct traits and zodiac signs under the common element share common traits.

These signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are grouped under Fire. Earth consists of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Gemini, Libra and Aquarius come under Air element. Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are signs assigned to Water group.

Modes or quadruplicities are divided into three groups of four planets each. Each group has one sign from each of the four elements. The three groups are the cardinal signs, the fixed signs, and the mutable signs.

The cardinal group includes These signs are more inclined to embrace activity and have a quick grasp of situations and opportunities. The fixed group consists of This is a goal oriented group that succeed by unwavering resoluteness and even stubbornness. The mutable signs are These signs rely on flexibility, experiences, and memories.

There could be another clubbing up of zodiac signs. There are three modes in which four signs each have been categorized. The three modes are: cardinal, fixed and mutable signs. Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn come under the Cardinal mode. Folks of these signs happen to be trend setters. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius are a part of fixed group and are known for stability and endurance. The remaining four such as Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces are put under mutable mode.

Each astrology sign has its own characteristics and features. If you happen to be an Aries, you are bound to be very confident, aggressive and arrogant. And you love to be the best in whatever you do. An Aries aggression is because of its association with fire element. Capricorn is from Earth element and Folks born with this sign happen to be very practical and responsible.

A Gemini person of Air element happens to be versatile but possess a dual nature. Cancerians come under water element. They are very sensitive and emotional people. Similarly all other signs have their inherent traits.

If you want to know about yourself through astrology, keep track of your daily sun sign horoscope. This is easiest way of knowing your astrological details. Birth chart prepared with the help of your birth details are rather based on your sun sign in conjunction with other planetary movements.

Astrology, Marriage, and Compatibility

"Marriages are made in heaven", is a well-known saying. So too can be said,"Divorces happen in hell". The fabric of Indian society weaves itself strongly around the well-established and time-tested institution of marriage built upon a well-thought of procedure and societal sanction. It is as rigorous as any ISO certification. "Once married, married for life", is the slogan or motto of Indian society. It is very strongly believed and rightly so, that marriage between a man and a woman approved by law, is not just a civil and social contract between two people but is also a union of two different families and their harmonious relationship into the future.

The starting point before a boy's family 'sees' a girl of similar status for mutual agreeability to the marriage proposal is the involvement of an astrologer for judging the astrological 'matching' or compatibility of horoscopes. In the so-called 'love marriages', this aspect is of no significance and hence, only a suitable 'muhurta' as per electional astrology is fixed (if required) for the marriage ceremony performance. That the ancient Hindus had devised a method to judge the marriage compatibility of the bride and bridegroom in all aspects - physical, mental, spiritual and biological - speaks immensely of their foresight, insights and skills in social architecture.

As soon as a 'middleperson' brings up a likely 'match', the families refer the horoscopes of the boy and the girl to their astrologers for their astrological examination with regard to compatibility, commonly known as 'matching'. There are three main factors to be considered:

1. The longevity of the boy and the girl

2. The strength of the 7th and the 8th houses

3. Agreeability of 12 factors or 'Koota Milan'

The seventh house in a horoscope pertains to one's partner. If Venus and Mars are in the 7th, the boy or the girl will have strong biological urges and so, such a person should be married to a similar one for compatibility. Judgement of longevity requires expertise and novices should not even attempt it. Once the minimum requirement of agreeability is achieved, the astrologer gives the go-ahead to the family, otherwise, he suggests skipping the proposal.

In 'Koota Milan', twelve (12) factors of matching are considered. The sixteen 'Kootas' are Dina, Gana, Mahendra, Stree-Deergha, Varna, Vasya, Graha-Maitri, Yoni, Rasi, Rajju, Vedha, and Nadi. Of them, the most important are Yoni, Rajju and Nadi. The maximum 'marks' or units of agreement are 36 (thirty-six) and a minimum of 18 (eighteen) are considered essential apart from the satisfactory matching of Yoni (sex), Rajju (duration of married life) and Nadi (physiological temperament). For the matching process, only the birth stars of the boy and the girl are needed. There are 27 (twenty-seven) 'nakshatras' or constellations in Indian astrology, not counting 'Abhijit'. Each 'nakshatra' is sub-divided into four 'padas' or quarters. The constellation in which the moon happens to reside at a given moment is the ruling star of the moment. The one at the time of birth is the birth star. Some astrologers attach greater importance to 'Graha-Maitri' or friendship between the lords of the 'Janma Rasis' (sign of the moon in the horoscopes) since this determines the psychological dispositions of the couple. Some exceptions are also provided as otherwise marriages would not take place at all!

What happens if the 'Janma Rasis' and/or the 'Janma Nakshatras' of the couple are the same ? The commonly accepted verdict of the ancient Indian astrologers and sages, in case the 'Janma Rasis' are same, is that the boy's birth star should precede the girl's. In case the 'Janma Nakshatras' of the couple happen to be the same, they should belong to different 'Padas' (quarters). It is essential to avoid the match if the common star is one among Bharani, Aslesha, Swati, Jyesta, Moola, Dhanista, Satabhisha or Poorvabhadra. If, however, the common birth star relates to two different 'rasis' (signs), and the 'Pada' of the girl relates to the preceding sign, it is acceptable. In case, the common birth star belongs to two signs equally (Mrigasira, Chitta etc.), the 'Pada' of the boy should relate to the preceding sign. Some more exceptions have been laid down to make allowances for matching if there is a strong demand for the alliance. However, the honest and sincere astrologer should put forth his objections without any bias.

'Kuja Dosham' or 'Mangalik' is one major obstacle to marriages in India. This arises due to certain placements of Mars ('kuja' or 'mangal' or 'angaraka') in a horoscope with respect to the Ascendent, the Moon, and Venus. Certainly, this 'dosh' or evil is dreaded by any father, particularly, of a girl! Mars in the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or the 12th house causes this incompatibility. There are two flaws committed by most astrologers. One is to reckon the position of Mars in the 'Rasi' (sign) and not the 'Bhava' (house) while the other is to ignore to ascertain whether this 'dosh' exists from the Moon and Venus. The evil is stronger if it is from Venus, less stronger from the Moon, and least from the 'Lagna' (Ascendent). Further, not every position of the above-mentioned five placements will endanger the life of the spouse. The 2nd house signifies family, the 4th happiness, the 7th spouse, the 8th longevity, and the 12th pleasures of the bed. 'Kuja Dosh' gets annulled if it is present in both the horoscopes. There are several other exceptions which have to be carefully considered before declaring incompatibility of the horoscopes.

The Western astrologer can greatly benefit from a deeper understanding and application of the methods of compatibility adopted by his Indian counter-part and save the great number of disastrous marriages in the West which has an inerasable effect on the unfortunate off-springs of such marriages. Of course, the new Indian generation has started emulating the undesirable pre-mature practices of the West. They will do good to themselves and the nation if they try to fathom the time-tested value system of India and avoid the pitfalls of the Western society.
